If you want the 1080, then it doesn't make sense to get the just 1080, as the SRX plugins are the full 1080+additional waves/patches.

So, have a look at the SRX plugins, and decide which you like the best. All the 1080 presets can be loaded into the SRX plugins with a slight modification. So if you got the SRX Keyboards, for example, you'd be getting effectively the 1080 with extra stuff that's quite nice...

thanks beely im thinking about orchestra or keyboards, i know that the ANALOG? expansion card was the classic.

The vintage keyboard ( analog ) was the srjv-04 , all of these waveforms were rehashed on the srx-07 board
https://www.roland.com/us/products/srx-07/.
You get all these waveforms in the keyboards srx plugin , except the elec. and acoustic basses and drums since these were recorded by spectrasonics .
I have an integra and the srx 07 is loaded all the time , so many good waveforms on there

Guys sorry for being OT i know someone mentioned 1080 VST sys to bin converter months ago. So one could convert existing sysex banks to VST version.

Did such converter eventually find a way to public or this is still in the works? Some nice KVRian was working on it i think (i may be wrong).

It was working fine when posted, but if you check here all of the JMJ covers have since been removed by request. Nice while they lasted. :tu:

Glad I found you, beely! :)

I too quickly realized that the VST wasn't compatible with the JV-1080.

I have a real JV-1080 and I've converted quite a few patches manually now.
I'll be very happy to do any tests or comparisons for any converter that you might be working on (syx to bin).

Here're some videos I did on my JV-1080:

Btw I'm VERY thankful your D-50 syx/bin converter btw - GREAT work! - very much appreciated :)
Fine ! Could you share your converted presets ?

I have two banks (JV-1080 sysex format) with +- 240 presets of JV-80/90/1080 collected and selected during years (I had a JV-880, later a JV-2080 and a JV-90). Those presets are not sounding like the factory presets, they are pretty distinctive. If anybody uses the Beely converter in beta-test, I could make the necessary corrections and a report (I have the JV SoundDiver Editor, so I can see the right parameters and waveforms).

You will find the two banks in attachments.

Thank you to anybody who will made the conversion. :)

carla, you've been so long at this, that *if* we ever do get a working converter from Roland, the patches I just downloaded will be the 1st ones I'll try!

I'm like a child waiting his Christmas present, Tristan.

Thank you very much.

Just a quick update:

Ok, I'm (finally!) back to looking at the conversion tool, and getting back to speed with where I was - and that was translating the FX parameters, which as I remember was a bit of a pain, and one reason I had to put it down to do other things...

The plugin has a nice XML file describing the layout of all the MFX/Chorus/Reverb parameters, which is the target format, but the 5080/Fantom spec *does not* list the address mappings for the individual FX parameters at all - and from what I can see they aren't in any reasonable/sensible order - not in the layout as they appear on screen, or the layout they are listed in the FX reference. So I have to reverse engineer all the parameters of all the FX types, which is a bit painful.

I'm just building some utilities to help with this, and I'll be mapping the FX as my current task. It basically means saving patches where you change one parameter at a time, dumping the patches (which is 9 sysex blocks per patch), split up the dump to just the block I'm interested in, and compare to see which bytes changed, and slowly map out the order of the parameters for each FX type, and add that info to the convertor so it reorders the various source parameters appropriately into the layout the plugin expects.

Just as a refresher, the basic plan is to get XV5080/Fantom import working first, as that requires the least translation effort (the plugin basically contains pretty much all of the necessary features.) From memory I think the patch data conversion is basically OK (but I haven't checked back on the status of that yet), and the FX is the main task here.

Once that's working, I'll have a good idea of the data and can then start working on adding in the 1080 translation. I don't have a JV-1080, so when the time comes, I'll probably ask from help from a few people along the way...

I will report back on progress as I go, so in the meantime, please don't ask me how I'm getting along, thanks. :tu:
