Hi everyone,

I'm delighted to release my latest drum sample pack for Slate Trigger (likely the last one of 2018) called the "9000 classic". It also includes all 24bit WAV files.

Available from: https://www.eatsleepdrums.com/store

I'm also delighted to say that a very talented friend has been working away at programming my existing sample packs for the Kontakt format (they're sounding and playing brilliantly) and i'll be happy to send these out to customers who have already bought the packs, and signed up to the mailing list, as a free upgrade upon completion! The instruments will also go on sale as part of a bundle with the trigger packs in the new year.

I'm also offering a 10% discount for life on all my sample packs for anyone who signs up to the mailing list while making a purchase. Loyalty is important to me and I'll be hoping to build some cool relationships with plenty of you over the coming months, putting together sample packs that interest you and fulfil your needs.

This new pack features a gorgeous Yamaha Recording Custom kit with a 22x16 kick, 13x9 and 16x16 toms and capped off with a 1968 Ludwig Supraphonic 400 chrome over brass snare drum in a medium-high tuning. This kit is exceptional for pop, rock, country and any other style where a natural sound is preferred.

Each drum comes with separate control over the close mic’ed signal (Multiple Top and bottom for snare), stereo overheads, various room mics and a special print of the studio echo chamber enabling the user to quickly move between tight and punchy to wide open and ambient.

The kick features 7 velocity layers, the snare drum 9 velocity layers and the Toms 5 velocity layers each, with 9 samples per layer, helping to create a very accurate and natural replacement experience.

The microphone list used to capture the samples is as follows:

Kick Close - AKG D112
Kick Far - Royer 121
Overheads - AKG C414
Mono Room - Coles 4038
Toms Close - Sennheiser MD421
Snare Top 1 - Shure SM57
Snare top 2 - Sennheiser MD421
Snare bottom - Neumann KM184

All captured through API preamps.

Feel free to check out the sound clips in the soundcloud playlist below. I hope you enjoy the pack, there are plenty, plenty more in the pipeline for release very soon!

Cheers,
Mark.

I'm the guy that's working with Mark to create Kontakt instruments from his samples. These are really awesome samples and I've done my best to keep everything he's done as well as provide maximum flexibility. Here's a screen shot of the snare and kick instruments:

Each instrument has its own mic and echo chamber channels, all of which have their own faders and that sort of thing. The snare has 9 velocity levels with 9 round-robins. The kick has 7 velocity levels with 9 round-robins, and the two toms each have 5 velocities and 9 round-robins. There's over 1250 individual samples includes, so plenty of variation here. You can also adjust the velocity curves to suit the style of music, from no dynamics through hard-hitting to to lots of dynamics.

I've included some presets to provide some interesting starting points.

These aren't quite finished off yet, but here is some audio - the "9000 Classic" is the default sound, showcasing the Ludwig snare with loads of dynamics, and of course, the famous Yamaha 9000 super-fat kick and toms.

The second "Stargazer" is my attempt to pay homage to one of my favourite Yamaha 9000 drummers, Cozy Powell. I changed the level of the mics around and the tuning of the drums to get closer to Cozy's sound (this is a preset I've included). I scripted a second kick drum for double-kick playing where the second kick has a little variation in it to simulate the fact that a drummer's kick drums will not sound identical. Forgive my guitar and bass playing!

Both of these samples are just MIDI drums playing the Kontakt instruments. I used the Room Sounds Blasting Room drums for all the cymbals.

The audio clips below used no other processing other than AirWindows NC-17 to bring up the overall level slightly. Other than that, this is how they sound out of the box. Not raw requiring loads of processing but not over-processed with a particular sound baked in. Very usable indeed just as they are.

Also, I've provided Mark with the Kontakt instruments for his "Rhapsody In Bohemia" samples, which are based on the iconic early sound of Roger Taylor of Queen. Very open, great sounding drums. He's busy checking the instruments and then he'll make them available.

And finally, even the free "Bites the Dust" samples have been given the Kontakt treatment, 458 samples for just two drums so again, very detailed, very dynamic. These are very dry, with lots of damping used on the kick and snare but sooo punchy.

Also, I know what Mark has in the pipe-line, there's some great stuff coming up rockout

Enjoy!

I was doing some fine-tuning with the Kontakt scripting for these samples, just trying to get the Kontakt instruments sounding as natural as possible. There's some very subtle randomisation with tuning and volume, plus the script might do other stuff, depending on "factors". It's all about trying to get these samples to sound as much like a real drummer as possible.

I pulled in some MIDI fills which I hope show off not only how great these samples are, but how natural and dynamic they can be. I've put together some presets in the instruments too to give some good jumping-off points.

These audio clips are right out of Kontakt with absolutely no other processing at all, other than being followed by Airwindows ADClip7 to catch the odd peak. Otherwise, these are 100% what you will get out of Kontakt.

Here are samples of three of the presets, Startup, Smacker (more thump) and Cozy (trying to get that deep, open Cozy Powell sound... you be the judge). Obviously there's some use of Kontakt's "tune" option but the difference in sounds was achieved mainly by adjusting the mic levels.

Enjoy!
