I never did and never will use torrents.
My solo projects:
Hekkräiser (experimental) | MFG38 (electronic/soundtrack) | The Santtu Pesonen Project (metal/prog)

Torrents aren't something bad per se though. Rather a way to prevent server load.
Not sure who used torrents to "release or upload his tracks" though. That doesn't make much sense.

A download doesn't mean it gets listened to. Some just download because they can. With streaming you know (a bit more certain) they do listen!
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

BitTorrent is a really awesome system that gets a bad rap due to piracy.
AcademicTorrents, is nice if you're into research or data science, or if you just want to download a bunch of free online college courses/lectures/papers. It's just a way of making sure that free information remains available in a decentralized form.
Archive.org has a huge selection of public domain films and audio available via torrent.
Legit Torrents is a decent place for open source software and creative commons stuff as well, and a number of musicians do put their releases there as well. A lot of linux distros are available here too.
Etree has a lot of live concert recordings (with permission from artists of course). If you're playing shows, you can add your videos to the mix here.
Torrents are cool. BitTorrent is a clever protocol. It just happens to also be used by pirates.

Legit Torrents and Legal Torrents are well done sites, but it looks like a small audience.
Lately the Pirate Bay has taken heat leaving mostly obscure inconvenient search engines.
I attempted to also put my songs on Usenet, but it is quite difficult to add entries to.
I always upload to online radio websites when it is an option, but I'm usually pretty unconvinced as to if people listen there.
Do you actually tune in Jango Radio when you want to hear a song?
