I just clicked on links from a blog at Native Instruments about “Selling Beats” and was hit straight away with how helpful this sort of model is at de-legitimising the musician.
Am I missing something but basically it looks like the internet is currently ripping musicians apart to the smallest components and simultaneously de-legitimising musicians at the same time, it’s not going anywhere good at the moment.
Artists aren’t artists any more they components in a mix. All this an a CD or release in the ‘old model’ costs between £10 and £15 and with that you give legit support to the artist and a real product in your hand.
Something has to change.

Not all music is "beats + vox". If artists want legitimacy maybe they should work harder at composition.
That said, the music industry has been putting writers and performers together for a long time. Some of the best songwriters around are not recording artists. Cutting the labels out of that process doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Yeah I’m probably just an old fart to be honest, it just looks as though it’s ‘Stems’ based around a business model rather than a utility around an art form, if you catch my drift.
Almost like, people/producers of games/videos/film/tv or whatever your chosen media, somehow feel that can’t directly reach out to someone they know of or can be introduced to, for some music.
It’s this ‘Off The Peg’ feeling that gives me modern day shivers...
