there was a vst plugin that you could stick in your master output channel that would broadcast your track on the 'net, just like ampcast or other net radio stuff.

Think about it. You're working on a track and getting excited about it. You could post a URL in a forum on KvR and people could tune in and hear you working on it and pitch in with suggestions in the forum :-o

Wouldn't that be cool :?: :) :?:

not if you've ever heard my music... :help:

that really is a cool idea!

if you make an mp3 i can listen to it later ???
you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

hmmm would be good for teaming up with other musicians working on a peice..

but the song would have to be streamed down to a stereo file and then probably encoded to a 'smaller' format.. doing that live (along with actually playing the song for the guy streaming) would take some considerable computing power and bandwidth..

good idea though.. maybe by 2010 :)

you can broadcast whatever pass by your soundcard, check the options of your casting program/plugin, and there must be an option for "soundcard input" on the source item

I´d say that the scope for playing live would be the most interesting thing!

actually, I used shoutcast plugin for winamp to broadcast a live set of 1 hour in an intranet on my office, and it was quite a success! ;)

There kinda is something like that:

It's called Wormhole...

And then there's Nicecast which you could probably use...

Oh, but wait... no one here uses OS X :|

I'm not a VST plugin, but if you send me all your mp3s, I'll play them on ampcast.

scuzzy .. i did exactly that a few times. with nicecast .. which is osX only. :?

its indeed an amazing exeperience, as its just live. and my motivation was exactly what you said: you sit there and dig what you hear, right at that moment. :)

You could spend some time (1) learning PD and use the shoutcast-external.

Groet, Erik

(1) "some time", of course, being relative.
Pop music delenda est.

There's also Peersynth, but not sure about VST integration with it.

A friend of mine just got a G4 lappy (the hun!), and he's got this software called GarageBand which he purports it can be like Cubase, but link up with people on the net to record guitar tracks, vocals, drums, all while someone in Togoland is tuned in listening to it all take shape - if there's no gnu's that day? (If you're gonna say Togoland, you gotta give a punchline! )

I hope he chokes on his big fancy Apple - and I hope everyone around the world hears him too! :tantrum:

live collaboration over the net is pretty damn near impossible. The latencies simply don't allow for it.

As for a vst plugin that lets you broadcast over the net, it would be doable (hell if we can have plugins like energyXT and tobybears vst2net then it has to be possible) but it's certainly not there yet.

otoh, the standard nullsoft shoutcast stuff will let you broadcast from a live source (anything you can route to an input on your computer) I used to do this now and again for IRC friends and stuff to get their opinions of tracks, but haven't bothered with it for years

edit: by live collaboration I mean actually playing 'with' somebody, say on some acoustic guitars. Speakerphone works much better.
