Hey Gary
Merry Xmas! Bumped up this 3 year old eh ? ;-)
Hmmm so it is still for sale then or?

I really enjoy working in Orion also, but lately a bunch of newer plugins that I have installed won't get past the opening vst scan. I need to put those plugs in a separate folder that Orion won't scan in order to open Orion.

I now use FLStudio and Sonar a bit more as they load all plugs. And FLStudio finally got a dedicated controller that the wife got me for Xmas yesterday. And amazing the shut down X command is finally on the right side like most windows programs.... Just as I was getting use to shutting it down for YEARS on the left ;-)

Anyway I wish Rich would have developed or at least maintained Orion as it really was a great program for fast creation.
Cheers to you!
Paul

@manytone

Did you try manually editing the vstcfg.txt file to add the ones that fail the scan?

This works in most cases.

I certainly miss not having updates to this elegant DAW. Hopefully, something new will replace it, SOON :)

Is there any interest in making Orion open source?

I even contacted a few devs about this possibility. I invite others to give it a try. Find someone who might be willing to give it a go, then ask Richard about it. If I could hire a developer to pick it up, that'd be nice. Maybe one day, soon ...

Merry Christmas Paul! If you have a version already you can buy the update..I think you have to look in the support section..not sure of that as you do have to look for it as it's not advertised.
I bought a new laptop earlier this year and have not put a lot of plug-ins on it yet, but it does seem Orion has a problem with Waves plugins, but I think I read a post from bones suggesting he used Maschine as a way to get around that...dunno about that yet.
But Orion was fun, and I did get a lot of ideas down fast. Never got the hang of FL Studio way back when I bought it (Christmas '02). Mostly still use Cubase and Live..but nostalgia for Orion runs strong.

I would like to try this Orion program. Is the workflow similar to FL Studio since this is supposedly pattern based?

Orion is not available any more

Remember trying out the demo back in 2000/2001, but it didn't feel like it knew what it was supposed to be, falling short of new innovative software that was appearing back then and other similar DAWs from bigger fish, like Logic and Cubase. It died a long time ago and has been pretty much forgotten by many.

You are missing the point, dude. Orion is about simplicity, not the need for gimmicks and complexity, ideal for itb users.

it'd be nice to have a final blowout sale rather than it just quietly disappearing, im sure plenty people would pick it up just for a play and some new inspiration

I doubt many ppl would buy a product with no support.
They probably would if it was cheap, say $99 (Approx £75) and they clearly stated it was cheap due to having no support. The instruments in it are fantastic. Worth it just for Pro 9 and Monobass that is.

Touch The Universe wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2015 10:04 pm Yes, very sad indeed :( There were some really cool things being planned for the next Orion version on the beta site that I would dearly love to have seen implemented.

About Dune 2 having more business, to me it makes sense at least because he's spent the past couple years on it entirely, so of course the money will follow where your efforts were placed.

I'm still holding out hope though!!! At least until an official declaration is made, until then the only thing I can do is beg and plead to keep Orion alive..
I know this is going back over 5 and a half years now but can you remember what was being planned?
