Hello all. I have the brilliant 9632 card, a great workhorse over the years, and so reliable. I use Steinberg Wavelab Elements 9 a lot with the card and in it I use the record feature which lets you record any sound that is playing through my speakers, eg a sound from YouTube etc. I think this is called the Foldback feature on the card, very handy. I’ve just installed the latest Windows 10 updates and luckily everything seems to be working, except the foldback feature? I cannot get any audio signal showing in Wavelab as audio is playing now I’ve installed the updates? Before the updates everything worked fine. I’ve installed the latest card firmware, 4.26. It works great! The settings in Wavelab to record the audio signal that is being sent back are Playback - Microsoft Sound Mapper, and Recording - Analog 1 + 2 of the 9632 card. This maybe a Wavelab issue of coarse, but I thought I’d ask here first if there is a solution. Attached is a screenshot of the pop up message I’m getting. Any info would be great! Cheers!

Maybe there are better ways - but you can always loopback optical in/out and get "what you hear" as input again. So set spdif to ADAT and loop that back into computer with an optical cable.

I do this all the time for YT stuff, Spotify too etc.

For recording software I usually set output to non used of ADAT ports, if there is a conflict in two trying to use the same device - like browser and recording software.

Your message can suggest this thing - and it can be fixed with changing output on WaveLab. You can always create extra ports in TotalMix to configure if you want to go through WDM devices.

Just note that volume matter when it comes to this "what you hear" - I've forgotten about that a couple of times.

Many thanks. Well on my 9632 breakout cable I only have XLR Line in L and R, no optical connector unfortunately. Having never messed about with the back of the 9632 card, it's a little confusing to me, but it looks like i'll have to try and work this out as the Windows update has TOTALLY ballsed this up with Wavelab!!!!!! :bang: Not sure if there is an actual optical connector available with the 9632.

I don't have that RME card, nor am I aware of that foldback function, but if it exists, it has to be some kind of special input driver, When selecting Analog 1-2 as your Inputs for Wavelab, you are pointing to the Analog Inputs OF THE CARD not some kind of internal loopback driver, There's no way the Analog Inputs can capture the output of Microsoft Sound Mapper I'm aware of.

To do what you describe, I'm currently using Sound Forge Audio Studio, but when I want to capture the sound that's going through the Windows Sound Mapper, I have to select a special Input on the software (ticking an option called "Record what you hear"). So, I presume the Total Mix or the driver (most probably the Driver Control Panel) must have some kind of special port named like that, to perform the loopback of "what you hear" as an input for a recording device.

Anyway, the error message displayed by Wavelab has nothing to do with the Inputs, but rather a mismatch between what is coming in and the format chosen for recording. Try select 16-bit 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz as you recording parameters. The recording format has to match the sample resolution and bit resolution of the device selected as Input.

The optical is not on breakout, no - it's the optical ADAT-plug on interface. Mine has and yours as well.
As I recall there were optical that came with interface from RME.

Did you create an extra WDM output, like to ADAT 3+4 to set for WaveLab - then it can pickup if you loopback audio either way. Then you don't share the exact same connection points with browser.

Managed to get on to Cubase 8.5 for an hour today and managed to solve the problem! Your way however is very convenient indeed, and i'll certainly be looking at the routing possibilities you've suggested! Many thanks for pointing this out!!! :D
