Turns out Rainy Afternoon is a patch in the DEMO Ampersonic soundset volume 1. Another heavy hitting patch is Ambient Glitch, which also crackles my system. I think its in the paid volume 2 of the same author. I put a screen shot of that one in this post. Also here they are on soundcloud (I think Amb Glitch is on the Cherry site too). :phones:

I think it's a combination of the spacing, size and color. I feel like I'm looking at a comic book.
I find the colors and module design very off putting. Way too much color, makes it look a bit like Lego on busy patches. Wished they kept a more minimalist/Eurorack type of design.
Maybe you've got the Cherry Audio Voltage Lego VAT edition? ;) As illustrated very well above.

I think the basic idea of using colour to quickly distinguish between different module types is a good one. The problem with that is that it's not consistent with modules created by third parties. I do agree though that it looks a bit 'toyish' currently.

I guess you didn't see my replies...

The "crackling" is by design on that patch/preset :) that's why it's called "Rainy", that's the "rain" sound.

Just turn down channel 3's volume to mute it, on the Stereo Mixer module.

That preset is part of the Ampere Sonic Vol 2 preset pack which has a smaller demo free version, if I'm not mistaken.

I am having a blast with this. Much easier to work with than Softube. Workflow is night and day. I'm pleasantly surprised.

I do get random moments of audio static but then it just goes away and doesn't come back for hours. I'm starting to suspect it has something to do with certain processes that may be running in the background on my PC that's causing the problem. The problem is similar to the iLok problem I used to have until I went to an SSD drive. Since then, no more iLok problems.

I'll keep an eye on it but I couldn't be happier with this thing. It is a joy to program. There just aren't enough hours in the day.

That's why I keep saying Softube's UX is surprisingly and unfortunately awful. Not sure why they did it that way and why haven't they fixed it yet.
No lack of good examples to follow ("copy") so there's really no excuse.

I hardly ever used my Softube Modular. Each time I launch it, it gets on my nerves and I just want to close it and uninstall it (which I did a couple of times, TBH).

The 'consistency' is certainly an issue they should have foreseen. The colour coding could have been implemented with a simple unobtrusive band of colour at the top (or bottom) of the module, or a thin stripe/border around the knobby/button section(s). I really do like the black-on-silver/gray look however, and it would be far more compatible with the predictable colour choices made by independents, IMO.

{I confess, I'm biased...}

I just spent about 2 hours working with VM. I do find the colours choices to be a challenge. Especially the way the cables interfere with the panels. It's rarely clear. Also, things really start to slow down in the GUI. I also find the multi-connection pop-out interface hard to delineate between jacks that are part of it and adjacent jacks. also overlapping cables present a problem in terms of following signal flow. I think of it could be sold with colours. I wouldn't mind a complete re-design of the panels if it improves things. Maybe get a tenured UI designer with experience with audio plugins would be prudent to consider. It's workable but the colours are a workflow bottle-neck. I am usually not critical of GUIs so take this constructive critque with that context. :phones:

You guys should mention what sampling rate your card is running at when mentioning CPU usage

Post

VM always runs internally @ 48 kHz, so host/soundcard sample rate shouldn't make a big difference in CPU usage.

Good point. 2010 Mac Pro 12-core 3GHz, macOS 10.12, LPX 10.4, 32G RAM, SSD. 44.1k project rate. 1024 bufffer, small. :phones:

So anyone bought additional stuff for the VM? Which ones do you find crucial for your setup?

I've been demoing Vult Rage Bundle since Friday and it's awesome - each filter really has its own character & sweetspots, some are more transparent, others are crazy and colourful. Really great!

Any feedback on the PSP bundles? Or the Euclidean Duel? Or Random Task? :)

Love the Vult bundle! Not only the filters, also the foldower distortion and the quirky Nopskate.

The larger PSP bundle is full of usefull stuff, and I've had at least three modules added to it for free since I purchased it. :D I only wish there was more modulation inputs, like for rate in modules that feature internal modulators etc.

The random task is... confusing but fun when I have short moments of illusions that I know what I'm doing with it. :P

I also purchased the Additive oscillator and while it can seem a lot of work to patch up every input I find there's a lot of mileage and it's just one of those modules that keep inspiring me to coming up with different ways to virtually patch it up. 8)

Yes, it's very fun to use.
Check out the Vult modules. Very hard to resist.
VCF-20 also very nice. And new modules keep popping up on a steady pace.

As a fan of the ms-20 sound the vcf-20 was obvious. I'm trying to control my gas here and be selective.
But the Vult modules are very hard to resist.

My favorites are the Vult ladder filter (you can use it in tandem with the Cherry audio ladder as they sound differently) and the Vult tangents filter.

I am keeping an eye on the gas though as this could be a rabbithole.

The psp ones are Ok but once you heard the Vults it's harder to be impressed. The nitroBQF is my favorite.
Yeah, I like filters

There are also some freebies in the store.
