No PDC certainly caught me offguard. Didn't expect that... That's gonna force some Logic users to try some demos, I do believe.

One thing I've noticed (I work for Oxford University) is that the price for individuals at educational establishments (at least in the UK) has dropped markedly from 6 to 7 according to the Apple UK website:

Logic Pro 6 - £692.08
Logic Pro 7 - £278.48
Logic Express 7 - £98.70

I was just about to buy Live 4, but at these prices, I'm seriously tempted to get Logic Pro 7 instead - what do you reckon? All those instruments built-in make it very tempting...

NB: all prices exclude VAT (at 17.5%)

marc - are those new plug-ins AUs, or built-ins?
This account is dormant, I am no longer employed by FXpansion / ROLI.

Find me on LinkedIn or elsewhere if you need to get in touch.

Well the old ones are built in, so my guess is.....

Drum roll please!

No seriously, the way they're harping on about improved integration of this and sample accurate that, I'm inclined to believe they're built in.

Pah - forget about Emagic doing ANYTHING someone could be using outside Logic.
I'd take any bet for them being built-in.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Hmm - in the past they have all been built ins. It would be quite a departure from this practice to make them AUs that could be used in other packages.

It would be an interesting move though wouldn't it - if you could for example apply Space Designer and some pitch correction in Final Cut Pro. You could give Dub-ya the voice of Satan and burn him on your own DVDs ;-)

Two completely different programs... But I'd have to say, the weak points in Logic (to me), drums and loops have certainly been addressed! Add some of the big picture stuff... I'd get Logic! PDC?... Ahhh...VST?....Ahhhh.... Wonder if it works though?

Unfortunately still all built-ins. But oh I certainly do wish they would reconsider this someday, just make the plugs AUs and protected with the dongle, then you still need Logic to run them (e.g. no lost sales just for plugs, which I would guess is Emagic's main motivation for keeping them built-in), but once you own Logic, you could use them in anything. Well, that's what I wish they'd do, but I'm sure it's also substantial extra development effort (probably the other main reason for not having done it yet)...

Some of the new global track stuff sounds cool, like a transpose track and automatic chord track.

Well, its not exactly _no_ PDC. Audio and Audio Instrument tracks are covered. Input, Aux, Bus and Output objects still suffer though.

I just had a look thru the plugs in logic7...since I got v5 and there´s alot of free stuff around that blows the pants of Logics native plugs, I´d say that the only cool thing in this new release would be the Drumsynth thingie (awesome gui)...but seing that there´s also a lot of those around there´s no real need for me to buy a mac (blech) and get logic7...I wouldn´t mind having it tho´
