To be serious about this hypefest for just one minute it looks like some updating has been done with a few of the very dated and dodgy parts of the program.
The big PDF indicates that the Sample Editor has been updated - it is hard to tell how badly some of the functions like pitch to midi still suck BUT there is now multi-level undo of audio changes - ie what was destructive editing which required making backup files will now be reversible. Not bad.
There have at long last been some EXS24 editor enhancements with drag and drop of audio and graphical editing of zones. EXS24 now supports 192kHz sample rates too.
No mention of sound quality improvements though - 256 point interpolation for rendering anyone?
From the stuff about Quicktime it seems like you would not need to use plugins in Final Cut as I discussed above - the PDF claims you can import and export the audio from a Quicktime movie - if the PDF can be believed (ie no gotchas concealed) the "cool edits" could be done in Logic and written to the movie without having to reopen the Video editing package.

Curious about some back-up for this statement, and clarifications...mindless wrote:I just had a look thru the plugs in logic7...since I got v5 and there´s alot of free stuff around that blows the pants of Logics native plugs, I´d say that the only cool thing in this new release would be the Drumsynth thingie (awesome gui)...but seing that there´s also a lot of those around there´s no real need for me to buy a mac (blech) and get logic7...I wouldn´t mind having it tho´
1) Are you talking about "blowing the pants off of" those included in 5, or the updates and new ones in 6 and 7?
2) If 6 and 7, are you saying that based on what you've seen and heard about, or what you've actually used and heard?
3) Specific examples of the free plugs that do this pants blowing would be very nice.
I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I really do think that one of Logic's strongest points is its built-in DSP and that it includes many absolutely incredible plugins for which I know of no equivalent replacements, free or otherwise, so I am just genuinely curious about all of these amazing free plugins that apparently I know nothing about!

Just regulary check the instruments and FX forums and you´ll see all the free stuff that´s really good...Like "Drumatic3" and the "Stardust compressors" and there´s more...the reason they blow the pants of logic is that thy are free and have quality that matches or surpasses the logic FX/instruments.marc wrote:Curious about some back-up for this statement, and clarifications...mindless wrote:I just had a look thru the plugs in logic7...since I got v5 and there´s alot of free stuff around that blows the pants of Logics native plugs, I´d say that the only cool thing in this new release would be the Drumsynth thingie (awesome gui)...but seing that there´s also a lot of those around there´s no real need for me to buy a mac (blech) and get logic7...I wouldn´t mind having it tho´

Granted, the Logic stuff is very very good...but there are thirdparty stuff that is better.
For instance, the "Asynth" plug by antti is far more musical sounding than any of the Logic plugs I have tried.
It´s a matter of personal taste yes, but you can´t deny quality when you hear it...especialy when it´s free.
If you happen to be working for "emagic" and want to buy the code from the devs I just listed...don´t even think about it...Capitalism is not welcomme at KvR!
Keep it free!

OK I will make it simple for you guys since you don´t seem to understand what I´m saying!
The new Logic7 plugs and instruments seems to be very nice, but since I got v5 and there´s a lot of incredible free stuff, I don´t need logic 7...It´s my personal opinion. And some of the free suff is waaay better than the logic ones...Why? because it´s free and although it may not directly compare to Logics plugs, the free stuff I mentioned are of a comparable QUALITY!...and that´s the most important thing!

While there were some improvements to Eq for example in Logic 6, a lot of Logic Mac users I know make use of other plugs for bread and butter things like Eq, Compression, and perhaps even Delays/Modulation and Reverb. I am thinking Elemental Audio, PSP, and obviously PowerCore and UAD.marc wrote:

If you own such 3rd party plugs - even just the native ones - you will probably find you don't use too many of the Logic plugs anymore. I am on Logic PC and I don't use any of the Logic audio processing plugins anymore because I have better third party ones - PSP, Kjaerhus Audio, Voxengo, Elemental Audio etc. Not to mention samplers like SFZ+, various drum samplers like BFD and the various VST synths.
That said, I really do like the EXS24, ES2 and the rest of the Audio instruments. I use the EXS24 all the time still but I wouldn't trade all my VSTis for the Logic synths.
For the newcomer this package offers and incredible array of tools ready to go - the above collection took me years and more $$$ to amass than I care to remember.
It would be interesting to know how good the pitch correction plugin is - is it a match for Autotune?

I don't work for Apple or Emagic. This still isn't much of an answer... Though for one thing, I should have been clear that I am more interested in the effects than the instruments. And also, again, have you tried the plugs in 6 or 7?mindless wrote:Just regulary check the instruments and FX forums and you´ll see all the free stuff that´s really good...Like "Drumatic3" and the "Stardust compressors" and there´s more...the reason they blow the pants of logic is that thy are free and have quality that matches or surpasses the logic FX/instruments.

Now I'll try to be more specific: Do you know of any free plugs akin to or better than Logic's Channel EQ, Linear Phase EQ, Ringshifter, Autofilter, Space Designer, Sculpture, Adaptive Limiter, Clip Distortion, Guitar Amp Pro, Tape Delay, Pitch Correction, Spectral Gate, EXS24, or ES2? Those are all of my personal favorites that I am very blown away by. And if so, what exactly are they? I really would like to know (and please, more info than "look at kvr," obviously I know how to do that, I'm here!).

Yes, but this is EMagic's steepest upgrade price I've seen them do yet. I did the upgrade from 2 > 3, 3 > 4, and 4 > 5. Mostly it's been $149 from like to like (Gold to Gold, Platinum to Platinum back in the day). Now if you went from Gold to PLat or Silver to Plat, yes it was more expensive like this.mjones4th wrote:But what's the point in complaining about the upgrade price? We all know how the software game is played.
Really, most upgrades are $149 to $199. Yes, they're giving you a lot, yes, it's now on a Mac, and they probably feel Mac people can 'absorb' the cost easier, but...

Asynth is a wonderful freebie indeed, but to say that it's more musical sounding than ES2, EVP88 and EVD6...I dunno man, makes me take everything you say with a big grain of salt. For instance, the "Asynth" plug by antti is far more musical sounding than any of the Logic plugs I have tried.
I'm a Sonar guy all the way, but even I can't deny the fantastic value that Logic Pro is.

marc .. are you serious?
You should know that there are tons of plugs outthere, and quite some are (or seem to be, according to the users) very exciting.
You mentioned exs24 .. i use it all the time, but come on: how oldfashioned and outdated it is in several departments?
evp has several competitors, as well as ultrabeat, sculpture, guitar amp pro, evb, space designer etc.

Ummm, everything Egbert mentioned was a commercial plug, you still haven't mentioned any of the free things aside from Asynth (which I agree, is great).mindless wrote:Spot on egbert!
There even are similar plugs like the string synth "Sculptor" of Logic7 out there..."String Theory" comes to mind...
Now you also mention to things above, but again, you still don't answer my question: Have you actually compared (in this case, to Sculpture)? These comments simply are meaningless if not, I really am looking for useful info here though...

*sigh* Yes, I'm serious. And for the 80th time, the issue is many empty statements about free plugins that blow all of Logic's plugins out of the water. Yes, I agree that there are many great plugins out there that are as good as or better than many of Logic's (though really, some of Logic's are my absolute favorites period, but maybe I just don't know about some other stuff). However, most of what I know of there is not free stuff. And yes I agree that there's tons of amazing free stuff, but all of the free plugs that I love are not direct replacements for any of my favorite Logic stuff. Which I have already specifically listed out for you. If anyone else wants to have a meaningful discussion, you'll have to be specific too, but right now this is getting very tiresome and has just been completely useless wind-blowing...putte wrote:marc .. are you serious?

Well, looks like I can get 7 Pro for half off. Now this is a dilemma. I've been eagerly awaiting SX3 for a few weeks now but this is tempting. I don't know what I'd do without z3ta though.
