Just because the name is trademarked doesn't mean it's going to be used.

It's normal for big corps that can afford to do this kind of thing to trademark names somewhat related to a major product to make things harder for people trying to pass off. See how many trademarks AMD or Intel have, for example.

I hope they have "Marching Band," "Brass Band," "Dixieland Band," "Jug Band," "Wedding Band," "Band of Brothers," "Band of the Hand..." :D

Let's not worry about that and just talk about how Apple is going to kill Acid Loops! Then we can talk about how they'll acquire Steinberg and do away VST so they can foist AU everyone...

Post

If more devs would join force together, we don't have to tolerate any proprietary format, be it appleloop or rex, or acidloop...

The moderator at sonikmatter mentioned it, and that they are turning acid into an apple product called "pro band" obviously a commercial version of garageband. No wonder there has been no Acid Pro 5.
Sorry, but I don't want apple to do this, purely becuase I don't want the ACID loop format to die, which of course it will if apple has their way...just too many hosts natively supporting the acid format..i'd be very disappointed.
Doesn't sounds true... from the ACID Forum:
I spoke to a SonyFoundy guy on the registration line yesterday (had to get Vegas on my new computer). Before I hung up, I asked him what the progress report on Acid 5 was. Without hesitation (and you could hear a smile coming across his face), he told me it was HOT; as for a release date, of course he was not allowed to say when it would be...but I persisted, and he told me don't be surprised to see it around Christmas time.

I then asked him if it was aimed at the Live users, and he claimed not to be familiar with Live, but was quick to tell me again just how amazing Acid 5 is, and how we're all going to love it.

Can't wait to see this one!

If Apple really bought acid and is going to name it with the word band in it- it needs to be

Band aid!

it needs help if its going to be "pro" midi editing in acid sucks so bad....

by the way, you didn't check your pm yet, i did answer ages ago..the link i sent you has been posted here now anyway....so Angus, now after reading the link, what's your opinion?
I don't know anything certain either way, but I would bet against. Would seem to me that Apple and Sony are arch-rivals for the so called "digital lifestyle" market, and Acid-lite is to Vaio as Garageband is to iBook (ditto Vegas-video-lite and iMovie?). Not forgetting, Sofo never did anything for the Mac in the past, and I reckon it'd be quicker to get the GarageBand / Logic or Soundtrack team to code up a Mac-native Acid clone than re-train the whole Sofo team on Macs. Also, that way you'd have a more-or-less common architecture all the way from GB to Logic Pro. And, the technology that made Acid such a revolution when it was released in, what, 1997?, is pretty much a commodity now. OK, so Acid's UI is still great, but Apple know how to do that for themselves.

Then again, could be wrong... :?
