...well, I really ain´t up for arguing either...I could also say that if you´re only using Logics native plugs, you´re really missing out on the rest.
Like it or not, Logic has the best plugs that comes included with the package compared to the other biggies like Cubearse and Sonar...but if you take into account the thirdparty stuff that´s allready out there, there´s really no need to buy Logic just for it´s plugs...
I could just as easily get Cubearse, some topquality freeware and have a system that kicks logic in the nuts...valid if you use Logic only...the basis of this argument.
There are replacemnts for Logics plug...and don´t forget that´s the way you´ll need to go if you don´t want to experience the woes of a mac...
Now, I´ll withdraw and leave you at peace...laters,

I don't know if I agree on this one Sascha. ES2's GUI is, to this day, still inhibiting me from really digging in. Now take a synth like Albino 2. I was creating patches within 1 hour of downloading the demo. And the buttons, knobs and sliders react well to the mouse.Sascha Franck wrote:Thing is, ALL internal Logic plugins behave the same when it comes to ergonomics.
Know how the filter button of the EXS feels when adjusting it? Fine! At the very same time you know how ALL the buttons feel.
I must say when it comes to GUI design (overall and for specific items), nobody beats the Emagic designers. Everything's just (almost) there where you'd expect it to be, there's not much space wasting going on. This is especially true for the arrangement - just compare to that jeelybeanish, bloated Cubase arrange piece of utter crap which seems to be made by fired toy designers searching for a new playground (Note: I'm only talking about the GUI).
Bingo. And you'll easily spend upwards of $1000 just to match them, quality wise. Of course there are weak spots. Of course there are third party plugs that sound better than Logic's better plugins. There is one major exception, Fish Fillets compressor. Sounds much better than Logic's compressor, to my ears. When it comes to sound quality, you *may* find better than the internal plugins - but DEFENITELY not for free.
And this was one of the points of my first posts. And LP7 even ships with a sample library!Seriously, for a suspected street price around 800 bucks, Logic has got to be the most complete and good sounding package ever (oh yes, I know, BONES will perhaps chime in, telling us that Orion is at least as good, probably even better - but you just can't stop all the clueless people).
Apart from perhaps some sample library you won't need anything else to come up with some VERY serious results (OK, mastering might be another thing), regardless of musical style.

The biggest selling point for logic IMO is the workflow. It's still the king of doing basic simple stuff fast. Like zooming, window layouts, linking windows, recording multiple takes and quickly working out what was the best take, the piano roll still has the most intelligent way of showing note velocity EVER.
The internal plugins are only average at best IMO, the tape delay plugin being the one I used most in logic. Most of the other plugins are pretty bad sound quality wise IMO.
EDIT: just wanted to add that the logic instruments are fantastic though and are hard to replace with other software. The new Scuplture demo clips sound really good and would definately be a selling point for me. Didn't care that much for the drum synth though.
EDIT2: Well, I guess I spoke too soon.
The update does look pretty tempting with those new FX. I guess I fell for it! If I'd have a mac and Logic Pro 6 I'd be all over this update!

G5 Supercomputers? God's OS is OSX? C'mon. You must be talking about the old testament God.egbert wrote:Wait a minute - you guys aren't seeing the big picture here. This is an Apple product. It's gonna be perfect.
And remember the takeover was like 27 months ago so the interface must have been totally redesigned to take advantage of the G5 Supercomputers and God's OS - OSX.
C'mon - you won't even recognize the program - it will have the footprints of Apple mavens all over it. You will probably just think of an Eq change and it will do it. Like - Automatically! Apple is going to totally own this industry. Fuhgedaboudit.
Personally I can't wait to break out the plastic.

I'm not a Logic fan at all (I find it very unnintuitive). But if I were on a Mac and was looking for a complete host with the most value, that would have to be Logic. Its a monster deal for somebody that doesnt have a lot of plugs. If you already have a lot then it might not seem like much. But theres no denying its the most complete package.

I have to agree. If I was using a MAC I would be quite tempted to go with Logic, especially if I had not already spent a bunch of money on effects and instruments...it really is a nice complete package. Not to be a downer (as the new stuff looks nice), but the lack of PDC on busses would be a seriously bitter pill for me to swallow (especially when you own DSP cards). Of course, this is IF in fact 7 does not have PDC on busses, etc.AD80 wrote:I'm not a Logic fan at all (I find it very unnintuitive). Just listened to the Sculpture soundclips - almost blown away, especially considering that it doesn't seem you have to be an expert to shape your own stuff.
Also the Guitar Amp plugin... hmmm. Being a guitar player myself, being pretty much familiar with all sorts of simulators as well I can only tell you: This thing seems to be great!
Can't wait to get my hands on it - will order the update for the university Macs tomorrow - at least something until I can afford my own Mac (uhm, I never thought I'd say something like that one day - Macs are still suiting the "most horribly overpriced" category just fine, in fact they're pretty much the leader).

Well two mitigating factors for you:Sascha Franck wrote: Can't wait to get my hands on it - will order the update for the university Macs tomorrow - at least something until I can afford my own Mac (uhm, I never thought I'd say something like that one day - Macs are still suiting the "most horribly overpriced" category just fine, in fact they're pretty much the leader).
They last longer, since RISC chip development is slower than CISC (due mainly to market forces, though, no technical explanation). My three year old g4 933 is still plenty enough for my needs, but I'm not very needy...
The resale value is way above PCs. My 933 is still going for $900-1000 on ebay. Try that with a PC.
My advice:
Either get a refurb from the Apple Store, or get one from Macofalltrades.com. And if you can't afford a g5, get a DP G4. Still plenty of juice. As a matter of fact, the DP 1.42 scores higher on some benchmarks than the g5 1.6.

Ah well... I know most of them allreadymjones4th wrote: Well two mitigating factors for you:
This IMO is no point. I am still using my old 466 Celeron for office stuff and my 1GHz Athlon served just fine as my main DAW until half a year ago. They last longer, since RISC chip development is slower than CISC (due mainly to market forces, though, no technical explanation). My three year old g4 933 is still plenty enough for my needs, but I'm not very needy...
But now I want some true native power because everything I do is 100% hardwarefree (apart from some input stuff, such as guitars...).
Even G5s are still quite slow, compared to properly configured PCs, especially considereing the extremely poor audio performance of LogicPro.
That's actually something I hate about PCs.The resale value is way above PCs. My 933 is still going for $900-1000 on ebay. Try that with a PC.
Being an old hippie myself, I just can't stand all that PC stuff ending in some sort of trash bin.
I recently had to throw away two processors, one mainboard, one CD drive, one HDD and a graphic card - almost a complete PC. Nobody wanted them, not even for free.
I know, just worked on a DP G4 today, was amazed how fine it played some songs done on a G5 2x2. Well OK, had to deactivate one space designer and bounce one Absynth track, but that was about it (and the G5 was allready pretty much loaded).Either get a refurb from the Apple Store, or get one from Macofalltrades.com. Still, in case I'm getting a Mac I'd like something really fast, suiting my needs for, say, 2-3 years at least.
I'm entitled to educational discounts, but that still doesn't make it affordable right now.
Well, right now I'm fine with my current setup, Logic 5.5.1/PC IMO still blows any Cubase version away big time when it comes to ergonomics.
But I'm afraid I really want that amp sim and Space Designer pretty much soon.

Seconded (as one out of three for me)....putte wrote:hmm .. to be honest: the only thing making me hot is the "recall channel strip settings".
Add the Shuffle edit mode. If this is what I think, which is the same handling as in Ableton Live's Arrange, then this will be such a huge step forward for efficient arranging!!
And add the Total Bounce feature, which was one of my top wishes.
