Cubase 9.5 hangs at VST 2.x plugin manager

hi, my Cubase 9.5.41 is tending to be slow or completely hanging on start up when it gets to "inializing VST 2.x plugin manager". I'm on Windows 7.

I'm assuming that I must have installed a plugin it doesn't like - so I assume I need to go over some of the more recent purchases / updates / demos to see if I can find the cause.

I just wanted to checking if, as it says VST 2.x plugin manager that means it must be a VST 2. If so that narrows down the field considerably as I tend to instal VST 3s only.

I would just remove everything in the folder and see if that solves it, then. But here on OSX there is a discrete VST3 folder, it would be simple to remove everything in 'VST'.
Chances seem good it's a VST2.

thanks, my VST2 folders are a bit of a mess, so I'll start with the VST3s as you suggest (they are all in the same place on Windows too).
