"Reason sound" test :)

You simply misunderstood what “Reason’s sound” means. You thought it’s related to the summing, but in fact they meant the old devices. It’s like one says Motif sound or Triton or any other workstation’s sound. Read old threads about it.antic604 wrote: Fri Jan 11, 2019 1:21 pmAgain, the point was to prove there's no such thing as "Reason sound" or in fact any "DAW sound".EnGee wrote: Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:45 amI don't see any point for the comparison in the poll to be honest. It would be a better poll to ask IMO if people still think there is a Reason's sound? And why they think there is or there isn't.
Native instruments & effects (incl. channel strips) might have characteristic sound to them, but that's also the case in VST world hence there was no point proving it![]()
It’s not about if a DAW has its sound. This is another topic (i.e not necessary related to Reason). You also need to do the null tests properly
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

That's it, i guess.Distorted Horizon wrote: Fri Jan 11, 2019 3:14 pm The "Reason sound" comes from stock devices, not the DAW itself.
The same way you recognize Sylenth or Massive from a radio track.

LMAO!!! That's adorable.xbitz wrote: Fri Jan 11, 2019 12:28 pm originally (even before the rack extension era) Reason has closed ecosystem so simply wasn't able to recreate proper bass in it that was the sound of Reason (was totally weak and useless on subfreqs)
Pre-6.0 (RE's), Reason was quite capable of producing incredible bass - easily in the subfreqs. Did you even use it then? Serious question.
antic604 wrote: Fri Jan 11, 2019 1:18 pmI disagree, because you could have lots of binary-level differences that would be inaudible for 99.9% of people. There's some threshold at which the differences are no longer relevant and that's for human to decide.Burillo wrote: Fri Jan 11, 2019 10:13 amthe actual way to do this test, is to null the files, and take humans out of the equation entirely.
You can disagree all you want, but the actual way to do this test is, in fact, a null test (which has been done many many times before). Any "binary-level" difference is revealed in a proper null test. That's the whole point of a null test.

although Viper is really good and ImpOSCar2, Diva etc. VSTis have incredible good presets,Janomix: Taller de Sonido
Can get this amazing sound on a VSTi?

In short, NO!
I don't know better shootout video on youtube in this topic,
Minimoog Softsynth Shootout: Diva MiniV3 Monark Legend Minimonsta vs Model D
IMO Legend is the winner here but the real thing is the real thing especially in movement ((dunno it's matter or not I'm listening it with Sennheiser HD-800 headphone)) round 7-8

LMAO!!! Nope. Sorry, you're wrong - so I'll ask again - did you even use Reason in the pre-6.0 days? No offense, but I can't be arsed to watch videos on YouTube (there's videos on YouTube "proving" aliens built the pyramids in Egypt and the Earth is flat). I'm just trying to understand why you think pre-6.0 couldn't produce authentic synth bass...xbitz wrote: Sat Jan 12, 2019 5:32 amincredible s*t onesEnochLight wrote: Sat Jan 12, 2019 3:06 amLMAO!!! , even the timbres of DSP based virtual analogs can't be reproduced properly in movement with software (it's not against Reason, it

I still don't understand how you had such a hard time coaxing proper bass out of pre-6.0? Perhaps you were doing it wrong? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯xbitz wrote: Sat Jan 12, 2019 7:38 am ^^^ not worth using softsynths for bass, have the same point of view >> viewtopic.php?p=7281203#p7281203 pure waste of time "There's just no substitute for analog"

It wasn't supposed to be a null test, just how I named the files.EnochLight wrote: Sat Jan 12, 2019 3:06 am![]()

I'd otherwise post some screens from the analysis, right?
There's no way real null test would work using VSTs, because there's so much more variables that might make it fail.
Also, a DAW having its - theoretical - "own sound" would be hard to prove with null test, because it's not about there being differences, but them being in specific places and intensity, like e.g. the mix would be more noisy, more bass heavy, with some skewed EQ, etc. That's a completely different analysis.
So chill, it was just a name I chose

_Ears lie_ and that's the end of this thread afaic.
They seem pretty much the same to me. #2 just glancing at it appears to have a sharper transient at one point, for sure I didn't stare at it too long.

Summing should be transparent and no couloring should be involved unless it meant to (like some specific DAWs that emulate analogue consoles, like Harrison Mixbus).
"Reason's sound" existed when it referred to it's old internal devices, otherwise I haven't heard of Reason's sound or Cubase's sound! (Musicians usually think there is a difference and they choose what they believe sounds better, but audio engineers know better if you read or see their explainations).
