Upgrades for SX3 and Sonar 4 arrived within hours of each other today. Both stable with limited experimentation...REALLY wish SX3 came with a nice manual like SONAR for those of us who like dry but informative bedside reading, without PDF screen glare.

I came home to both upgrades today as well. I have spent most of my time so far with SX3. I am so impressed that I haven't even opened the Sonar package yet. I love all the new features (play order tracks, audio warp, midi panels, etc.) This is a great upgrade. Shortly though I will dig into Sonar 4. What a day.

HI

I await (still!) my update to SX V3 - it is almost laughable that a £600 software package does not come with at least a little illustrated tutorial, a reference guide and new features booklet (what would this amount to - a 300 page booklet?)- I am lucky I have the idiots guide to SX from a computer magazine - which was bundled with a cover CD containing 500megs of samples, 30 free synths and fx plug-ins a free sequencer and half a dozen demoes for £3.99p - when you think of it in those terms it stops being a joke really, doesn't it.

My SX3 Upgrade came with an 260 page Illustrated Getting Started manual that has screen shots and short tutorials. Do they not include this in the UK?

If it weren't for gearlust, most of these software companies would be out of business.

HI

I couldn't tell ya - I was assuming that my SX V2 came with a bloomin 50 page pamphlet - but it was a cross-grade version, also "djmontyq" appeared to indicate a lack of manual - "REALLY wish SX3 came with a nice manual like SONAR for those of us who like dry but informative bedside reading, without PDF screen glare" - who knows - perhaps it will, in which case I will eat my Logic manual (Addendum) not the 450 page jobbie!

All I want is an illustrated booklet that takes you through some of the core features, if it comes with that fine - Logic V5 came with a 100+ page booklet that took you through core functions in a tutorial style, which was nice.

It's a sick, sick thing. Still, cheaper than booze and drugs, and a little easier on the family life.

SX1 > SX2 Upgrade came with a 240 page 'Getting Started' Manual. I assume SX2 > SX3 Upgrade will have a bout the same, 'lil smaller though.

Yes, after 3 SX's, it's still about 240 pages of "Getting Started" again---sorry if I implied that there was NO manual, but I've definitely "started" with SX by now. The "Operation Manual" which covers new features in depth, is a downloadable PDF some 800 pages long. I just wish the printed SX manual was as robust as the program itself has become.

With regard to gear lust, my addiction of choice, I'm using both programs in my Logic withdrawal strategy  to see if they distract me enough from the still-sexy competition.

As a former EX-Logic PC user I can now say SX3 does evrything I have ever wanted except .... scroll horizontally with my new Logitech mouse which has vertical and horizontal scroll on the wheel and ability to re-arrange effects by drag and drop. Sonar 4 does these nicely although I still think I prefer SX3 better for my way of working. If SX3 would only do these then it would be perfect !!!
