Very detailed post, and all very good points! Some of these things I didn't even think about tbh!

Thank you BlitBit for sharing your test findings with us, much appreciated.

This really highlights to me how unique a soft synth can be underneath the UI, especially when so many soft synths all appear to have identical features and parameters... but can sound radically different to each other.
