Very nice!Bombadil wrote: Tue Dec 25, 2018 7:17 pm If you can get a Custom Artcore 2nd hand, that would be my recommendation. I have an AS103NT that I'm putting up for sale to help pay for my Gretsch 12er.
The headstock is huge. Is it neck heavy?
What will you be asking?

No, it's fine. I live in Germany, though. I'm hoping to get €450-500 for it. The customs are significantly better than their standard models, though. Good luck!

well I have had this Ibanez over a week now and I have played it a lot and yes really this is more suited for a first guitar imo (which is not a deal breaker for me, please pardon my using that term on a gift). It doesn't have a wizard neck but the profile is nice, not Fenderish either, it plays well for me. It has a standard tremolo (but no arm
) and that's fine, (I dont need another whammy guitar right now and if I do there is an ESP in it's case waiting to get reassembled with a vintage 80's FR.)
The guitar came wired H-S-H but splits with the 5 -way like a lot of Ibanez guitars (including my prestige), I have found an ok tone using the single coil and one coil of the neck pup, but obviously on a 200 dollar guitar it's not great. There's that first guitar thing popping up again but I wish at the same value I could have had close to the action this does with my first guitar.
My Daion needs a makeover, I have decided to hang onto it but I am looking for someone who could redo the gloss finish for me so as a result the Daion is getting put away for a bit. I put a pair of Duncans in it that came in my Jackson, then was in my baritone, well now they are on the move again as I'll put them in this guitar. (a duncan single coil and a stratoblaster kit are both likely in the future)...but first I want to record it stock.
It is tuned to open Eb right now, it will absolutely get a ton of playing time but more often as a rhythm guitar. It does stay in tune fine but if it didn't machine heads are not uncommon in my house.
Right now I'm playing it through the Frenzel Super Champ with a KT-88 sovtek power tube, so I am playing a first guitar type ax through really what back in the day would be a typical first amp. The Frenzel is very much Champ but also voiced for Plexi, the way I assembled this rig and ask Jim Frenzel for some mods let me go from a basic champ to a screaming class A hi-gain amp (of course with any octal based power tube), right now it's basic champ...with a modded TS clone.
My first guitar that could be amplified was an acoustic (no name) with a headphone size speaker (dynamic) taped to the front acting as a pick-up into a repaired ham radio amp of my dads (tube of course). Those were fun times and right now I kinda remember that feeling

My replacement (black, ha!) Gretsch has arrived, and the refund issued for the first one. Apparently, I was not the first to return the first one, as it didn't have a styrofoam cover on the pup toggle switch. This one does. They also knocked the first one down over €100 (ouch!) as B-Stock. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for the 'slight traces of use.'

Ok. This one is better. Intonation is better, but not perfect, yet. The nut doesn't seem to have issues. I'll take a few days to decide. The thought occurred to me to buy back the B-Stock model, but I'd have to pay at least €60 for a setup, and there was a possible issue with the saddle on the high G string.
Now our cats are trying to climb into the boxes, lol.
I'll be leaving the plastic on the pickguard this time, until I'm sure.
And not put any graphite in the nut slots.

Already has!
It's 2:00 AM, I've been playing her through Scuffham Amps in Logic for the last 1.5 hours. I haven't had to tune it once! Oh bliss!
I know I gushed about the other one. It was a beautiful and amazing sounding guitar. I had hoped the tuning stability would improve over a few days, but even after a string change and graphite in the nut, I was tuning it almost as much as I was playing it. I talked with my luthier friend about it, he said he could fix it, but my instincts told me to try another. So, I come into the livingroom after a couple of hours, plug the new one in, and it's in tune! I think I have a keeper. 99.99% sure. And the sound is glorious.
This is my last NGD. I even believe that.
EDIT: Next day, guitar still holding its tuning. Yep, I have a keeper!!!

Looking for a little advice.
I want to upgrade from my shitty Epi Les Paul and I'm looking for a solid body electric guitar with a lot of range in terms of tone. Budget is ~$1200.
I have a Line6 Pod HD500 + DT25 combo, so I've been thinking of getting A Variax.
I'm looking at the Fender Ed O'Brien Signature Strat, too (mostly because of the Sustainer).
I was also considering this Schecter Apocalypse C-1.
I've never played a Schecter, so I'm not sure if I'll like it and unfortunately none of my local guitar shops carry them (except GC). The Schecter factory is about a half-mile from my office, in Sun Valley, I wonder if they would let me come by to try one.
I'm not a shredder, I'm mostly using guitars for sound design and ambient sound scapes but I do play a little bit.
Anyone have experience with any of these? Or perhaps other suggestions based on what I want to do.

Just get the bloody Variax and an ebow. The others may be nice enough, but can they do a banjo tuned down to low G baritone? My neighbours love it.justin3am wrote: Sun Jan 13, 2019 4:01 am Looking for a little advice.
