Good synths that respond to release velocity

I’m very much enjoying using release velocity in equator, strobe and Cypher. It makes for some very interesting polyphonic parts. Even if a synth doesn’t have a full MPE implementation, I’m curious what there is on the market that has release velocity as a mod source.

Damn. Nobody likes to respond to my posts. I have the fxpansion stuff that has rv built in. I have the u-he stuff that has release velocity as a source. I’m literally looking for almost anything that will support this outside those. Kontakt will do it with a couple lines of script. Other than that there are no synths I know of that support this. It may just be my own ignorance, because I only really have komplete and then a pretty random selection of synths. I’m just wondering if any of the other “big flagship” synths out there can make good use of rv.

There's a couple listed here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=149151&p=2086471&hi ... 7#p2086471
The ones I have that use it are: Arturia Matrix 12V, Synclavier V, and Halion 6.

Biotek 2 (listed as "REL" in the interface). Also does Channel Pressure (AT) and Poly Pressure (PP).
Serum (right-click on the control, choose mod source > Rel. Velo). You might have to use the latest beta since that's what I'm using, that has beta MPE support. Exciting times!
VPS Avenger doesn't. It's kinda disappointing. They officially rejected MPE in the Facebook group.

I am surprised that the support is so thin out there. I’ll check out the synths mentioned.

Korg Modwave Native has it. I was just playing around with it this morning and I was pleasantly surprised.

And so does Korg Wavestate Native. Also, Dawesome's Abyss, Novum, and Kult. Very cool.zerocrossing wrote: Sun Jul 09, 2023 9:44 pm Korg Modwave Native has it. I was just playing around with it this morning and I was pleasantly surprised.

When you press a key, there are typically two rubber buttons under that key which are staggered front to back. After the key is initially pressed and the first button is actuated, the device will then measure the time it takes before the second button is actuated. This is translated into the typical key-on velocity value. In a similar way, when the key is released, the time is measured between the two button releases to determine the release velocity. Different synths (HW and SW) can use this to control various modulations/parameters. So if you release a key slowly, it controls a programmed parameter differently versus when the key is released fast. MPE keyboards typically have release velocity available, as do some other controller/synths (E.g., the Hydrasynth keybed and mod matrix support release velocity). I found it a bit strange to play at first, but it can be helpful to add expressive playing to a sound as you release a key.
