I think Wikipedia is wrong there, I remember it going back much longer than that.

Yep, it's been lifetime free updates since at least v2. Pretty sure it was since the beginning but I don't recall exactly.
For people that bought the boxed version. In v9 the boxed version came with a voucher to purchase the lifetime updates. Before that boxed version owners got 1 free update.
edit: It's all right here. 20 years of free updates. https://www.image-line.com/flstudio/lif ... pdates.php

Being on OSX I paid little attention to FL Studio, but my somewhat vague memory is of it going back farther than that too...
In any case, Image-Line has been talking about Harmor (and other plugins) on OSX since before Bitwig even existed and they are still not available so it is no shining example to follow.
Bitwig is being developed at a fast pace in directions I am happy with so I am glad they have the pricing model that they do. It is working well imo.

"Lifetime Free Updates, is our promise to FL Studio owners, to give them free updates for as long as we develop FL Studio. That means each new FL Studio version number as it is released. In 2018 we reached 20 years of free updates! Most FL Studio customers have 'Lifetime Free Updates' included with their purchase."

PS I think Bitwig is awesome, don't get me wrong, but developing a market strategy is something completely different than developing an application.

Page 4 of a thread about an exciting new development in DAWs and we've already got more than a third of it griping about the past and talking about FL.
Although I love my extensive collection of Max4Live devices I never got very far in attempting to program one myself. This will be so much more approachable. OSCillot is probably the closest thing in Max4Live but it is not integrated into the DAW in the way this is and is very clunky in comparison with the way this looks to be going.
I'm impressed. I've seen Tom (Helzle) posting for years about what an improvement in approach Bitwig is over Live in many areas and I can see how good the modulation system is in the current version.
I expect I'll hang on to Live for a good while yet but I expect I’ll be on board with Bitwig when version 3 comes out (hopefully with an introductory discount, or I will have to wait for the next sale).

Sure looks like the Bitwig marketing strategy is working pretty well. Development is fast and opening areas that are not so well covered by other DAW's. They have a vision they are following and are offering creative tools not found in other DAW's. Plus it is obvious the user base is growing well as there are many more threads, Bitwig questions, new users in the forum etc.excuse me please wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 6:29 am PS I think Bitwig is awesome, don't get me wrong, but developing a market strategy is something completely different than developing an application.
They got over the hump this past year and things are starting to hum along. Good times ahead for Bitwig users.

I held onto Live (version 9) for a while. Once 10 came out I was glad I had switched to Bitwig. 10 just did not have the core changes I patiently waited years for in Live. And Live had just started to feel like there were too many parts bolted on. M4L crashed for me too much. My last year of using Live I had mostly stopped using M4L due to crashing.lnikj wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 6:53 amAlthough I love my extensive collection of Max4Live devices I never got very far in attempting to program one myself. Bitwig is one integrated application. For example, take any of the Bitwig synths... you can add unlimited modulation and any modulator can be per voice. That is not possible in Live. You cannot add a per voice modulator to Operator.
And now with the upcoming Grid devices in Bitwig v3, you can create a synth from the modular parts. I expect it will work with MPE, the integrated voice stacking, and per voice modulation like the other Bitwig synths and sampler. Assuming that is the case (and there is no reason it wouldn't be) that is gonna be so sweet.

@pdxindy
Yes, it seems that way, they have a small team, so I guess they had to adjust their plans. Which by now look very promising.
Oh well, Rome wasn't built in a day...

Reaktor 6 also costs 200 bucks if you don't already own it.Tearing Riots wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 10:43 amNo vst bottleneck
Integrated interface
Works very well with touch
BWS Interface (inc Grid) scales for 4K etc, I find Reaktor hard to work with in 4K
I think the key issue will be the integration with the existing modulation system and hardware control etc, I just want everything to be as easy and intuitive as BWS has made other talks which used to be far more complicated to achieve.
I also think grid will be great in tablet mode on my MS surface.
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S49MK2, Studio One, BWS, Live 12. PUSH 3 SA, Osmose, Summit, Pro 3, Prophet8, Syntakt, Digitone, Drumlogue, OP1-F, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Nord Drum3P, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

And i guess (or hope) it is not a cpu hog like Reaktor which makes it unusable for me to create really complex patches and even think of using a second instance.SLiC wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 11:48 amReaktor 6 also costs 200 bucks if you don't already own it.Tearing Riots wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 10:43 amNo vst bottleneck

All the existing Bitwig devices are built in the modular backend. So it seems unlikely that the Grid will be overly CPU heavy for common tasks. Obviously we'll have to try the beta to see for sure.Cinebient wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 1:33 pmAnd i guess (or hope) it is not a cpu hog like Reaktor which makes it unusable for me to create really complex patches and even think of using a second instance.SLiC wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 11:48 amReaktor 6 also costs 200 bucks if you don't already own it.Tearing Riots wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 10:43 amNo vst bottleneck

Poly Grid will likely be MPE capable and will allow unlimited per voice modulation just like other Bitwig synths. I assume it will also be able to make use of the common voice stacking functionality of the Bitwig synths.

Yeah... my impression from the outside (I have no inside info) is that they had to backtrack a bit, rethink some initial concepts, do some recoding, etc. There have certainly been some growing pains both as a new app and new company and at the same time.excuse me please wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 7:35 am @pdxindy
