I recorded more music with a Fostex 4-track and a shitty Radio Shack mic with no god damn preamp than I do now.

The music I make now sounds better. Hopefully it is better. But I spend more time twiddling knobs and trying different compressors...and demos than actually practicing my instrument and being "in the zone", creatively.

I love that link, by the way. I can see how I'd feel the same way if I were a software coder.
You could get spoilt with choice using hardware too.
Fair point, but with software being generally many times less expensive, people can buy something very powerful for very little, and still bitch about tiny little things.

However, this is the nature of any service industry(if thats the correct term), you have to listen to your customers and work to make them happy, as WilliamK pointed out.

Users are always right, even if they are complaining like crazy. When they do, is YOUR fault.
Correction Willian: - Customer is always right, users maybe. :D
Ahhh, yes, thanks, good point!

But don't you think that is odd, the guy's code is full with bugs, people complain, and he gets mad? :-o If you were playing the game, you were adicted to it, playing for hours. And it halts due to a bug? Would you be mad or what? :hihi:

What are you trying to tell us? It is my right to rant. I will rant as long as they take my money. They have the right to take my money as long as I rant. You have the right to rant about my ranting.

That is what all the fun is about. Please don't stop the fun.

:O)
you say it like it's a joke, but most car boardcomputersystems the company i work for install
do have a challenge and response system or some other sort of identification system before
your able to start the car. prevents theft and improper use of the vehicles in companies.

hardware and software is both susceptible to crazy human nature and it's sick utterances such as theft and molest. :(

:D I dont agree.

The greedy bastards are the dev's mainly who promote their software (usually with bugs) for a profit and rely on us to buy it telling you its a must! How many drum machines, synths, fx etc do you need? Does having the latest software make your music any better cos if it does then something is wrong.

There seems to be a lot of people around who "must" have the latest stuff, who have all the tools, synths etc and yet still can't produce a decent track.

Too many people here are playing with too much. Instead of trying to learn just one synth they play about with many and then complain when there arn't enough presets etc.

fake
You cant beat people up then have them say "I love you"

Sometimes when you let software create backtraks for ya,,it makes ya think it will also finish it for ya,and when it doesn't ,well, just this new feature or that and I can finish this thing..kinda creates a creative hole..
This made me listen to a couple of cassettes I did in 1982 with 2 decks for overdubs,,how the hell did I do that with nothin..
In the end though, we have the power to use it or not.
but 1 things for sure it will keep me interested in the whole thing forever,,keeps me frosty..
I have alot of friends who gave up their hobbies for the friggin tv because it got boring ,,nothin new,,their frozen..
So for me ,to all the devs out there,,thanx and keep it comin,,,,

HI

This is an easy one to give an 'IMO' isn't it.

Quite simply (me included) people that hang around here too much become embittered EX-wannabe's.

The people that are making progress (and I include those who make money from their efforts) probably have never heard or given a second thought to "is zeta better than Rhino" or "which is the best SX, Logic or Sonar" OR PERHAPS "do the aliasing filters in ? compromise the end listeners enjoyment of my tracks?" - these and many other useless discussions are unheard of amongst the many people 'in the business' that I know or who are known to my friends.

This may sound bitter to the palette but hanging around here for hours on end when we/you could be making music or playing with your 'toy's' is quite simply a one way ticket to no-where.

Don't get me wrong it is good to be informed but I am increasingy coming to the realisation that unless you simply like to talk and not walk - so too speak, you/we need to move on from worrying about a vast amount of the popintless waffle that goes on here and focus on our own goals - then there won't be any reason to bitch about whatever.

Flipper.

Well I for one only waste hours here whilst at work, do you really think I would waste my personal time hanging round here? I rarely bitch about synths, couldn't give a stuff about aliasing and I'm happy with nearly every product I own. As for progress, well I'm only in it as a hobby so I'm pretty happy.

I think you need to understand people's goals before you start telling them where they're going wrong. IMO of course :P

We're in the same boat there. I'm betting you do a fair amount of research before buying -- read reviews, ask current users, and so forth?

Flipper - bloody good call, this is why i get f**k all done.

Cypher - For someone considering themself a hobbyist, your output is very impressive and to my ears of professional standard. :)

HI

Did you not see the BIG """"IMO"""" at the beggining of the post :x .

Not telling anyone what to do its IMO!!!

Shit - get real.
