I'll start this off...with...

Presonus Studio One 4

1. The quality of the GUI, it's horrible pink pixelated fonts and lack of options to change them in size, colour or type. Hi-DPI doesn't help, and general colour options are still poor.

2....(No Free Scalable Plugins )

3....(Lack of Surround Sound support & Video / Timeline related features)

Point 1. is really the main one for me...on a day to day basis. 2 and 3 are more of a productivity thing I miss... going forward.

I don't hate anything about my DAW. It enables me to make the music I want to make. :)

If there is one thing about Ableton Live I'd like to change is make it start faster. Now startup including file indexing takes more than a minute, much slower than Bitwig. During this time the program is unresponsive and can't be used.
This happens every time, so it's my change wish #1.

I have two "main DAWs." Seriously. Use Cubase and Studio One 3.5 about equally.

Studio One:

1. Just about anything related to MIDI. No MPE, no Input Transformer/Logical Editor, no Event List, no Staff View, no Articulation Management. There's like 50 things that go into this particular item.

2. No Control Room.

3. Low latency mode only works with plugins whose parameters support VST host automation. This means a lot of plugins don't get their settings updated in low latency mode.

Cubase:

1. Remote control of plugins suck. 8 Quick Controls? Needs something like Studio One's Control Link.

2. Needs a proper smart tool for audio and MIDI. Way too much tool switching in Cubase.

3. Too much legacy bloat. Some really antiquated looking screens int here and functionality, bloated, confusing menus, etc. Seems like they try and improve this with each release, and they've made progress in the short time I've used Cubase, but still lots more to do.

i see what you mean with 1.
but 2 and 3, i think you're just being picky.

i tried responding to this thread and could only think of one thing (it's a big thing, but just one). Made me feel a lot better about sticking with it, because i've been trying out some other DAWs lately instead of making music. Thanks!

Don't hate anything. I didn't love the Logic interface, until I found out how configurable, not to mention skinnable it is. On the other hand, I'd like a more warmer default look, nested stacks (folders on other daws), and a more facile audio engine (the ability to scrub, a more responsive GUI when it's playing, etc.).

c'mon vurt be fair, he was picky on #2 but #3 is really demanding :clown:

As for the topic at hand and question thereof, I try not to hate but putting that aside I dont look at my DAW to see what's wrong with it. I having been using this DAW 12 years next month and I am still quite humbled by it, it never fails my expectations. I realize it may fail the expectations of others but I'm good :)

Studio One 4 Professional

1. No true Automation clips for easily copying/moving automation

2. No pure "MIDI Tracks" for sending data to multiple MIDI-triggered effects from the same track (like multiple instances of Kickstart or Volumeshaper)

3. Can't think of anything more

FL Studio

1. "Unlinked" Playlist, Channel Rack and Mixer slows you down and can cause you to make errors

2. Lots of small glitches and bugs, especially in the VST wrapper

3. "Ghost notes" can only be seen for other channels in the current pattern, can't choose which channel to show notes from
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

1) No 'Instant Rock-God' plugin;
2) I need an expensive Mac to run it (Logic Pro);
3) See 2.

In actuality, Logic has more capabilities than I'm capable of using, and is a long long way from ping-ponging between 2 cassette decks. I truly love it. 25 years ago I never dreamed I'd have access to such a tool.

Super small thing about Cubase (but for some reason it bugs me quite a bit)
When you export the stems it’s either all mono or all stereo. I mean how hard must it be to export stereo tracks in stereo and mono tracks in mono.
Also, now I think about it: no movie export.

No problem with the software , computer , or musical instruments . But sometimes I just wish I could get in the zone and make music .... Just doesn't happen .

Tip: Laptop & "working late" (i.e. coffee shop) for an hour each evening.

For your own sanity it comes highly recommended.
