I love Blake (have you read the biog by Peter Ackroyd? a great book), even though I am not a fan of poetry per se, only really blake, milton, rossetti, dante (i bloody wish!)

Has Patti Smith put out that album of Blake poetry to music, d'you know :?:

Will make a change from verve parahrasing :?
(and sparklehorse doing it straight)

heh - interesting - as an art teacher i come at blake from the visual side (he was a TRULY visionary visual artist) and the poetry is pretty much an afterthought for me ...

... i just LOVE the way he uses words to evoke visual metaphors - 'london' is a GREAT example of this ...

... that and the 'thine own ... ' quote just really hits home here ...

... whos perfect eh ???

Very OT, but:

I went to see an exhitbition of Blake's paintings when they were on loan in Sheffield. The only other time I have seen his paintings is in a book that i nicked from school.

Beautiful, Beautiful

There is a guy in the Laing Art Gallery called John Martin (not John Martyn :hihi: ) whose content, if not style is very similar - totally apocalyptic "everlasting gospels" style depictions.
However, nothing like the drawings Blake did for the Bible where he re-interperated the meanings into a more visionary, radical image
