Hi,
My first post in KVR forums.
I want to know if someone can identify which is the first snare that is heard in Fine Time, by New Order.
The song uses at least 3 different snares and the second is definitely an 909 snare.
But I cant identify the first snare used.
At first it sounded to me like the SP12 snare used in True Faith but now Im almost sure it is not the same one. I think I read that New Order used the Roland R-8 drum machine in that album (Technique) but I haven't had luck finding that particular sample.
Thanks for your help.

Hmm, had a listen..not sure which snare it is exactly. But, you could get there by taking an acoustic snare sample, do some layering and then process those layers with a transient shaper. Smart Attack by Waves might do the trick here.

Thanks. Im sure I could get there with some processing but Im not that saavy at that. I thought that it was a common snare sample since they appear to use it in other songs in that album, like in Round & Round although there it doesn't sound as hard or sharp:

The issue with the time and identifying gear is there was so much of it by then, and there were samplers. I've read that they had an Emulator 3 for the album and sampled live drums. So it's very possible that first snare you are after is a sample of Stephen's snare into the E3 or other sampler/sequencer (I think they had S900s as well).

To your point about the R8. I believe that replaced the RX5 they had. If you've been through all those samples and not found it, it's extremely likely that it was a sample of their real kit.

Are you looking to recreate it? Or just wondering?

I think you are right. They did sample live drums. In this album Stephen played the drums live and then replaced it with samples
