Camel alchemy vs logic alchemy

Alchemy v2 is an extremely capable synth indeed. It's in my top 3 best synths of all time.. not sure of placing yet but it's definitely in one of the top spots.
It's the only instrument that I know of that does modulation mapping correctly, thus giving the creator almost unlimited control over how a modulator of any kind affects the sound. This is tremendously powerful and lets the sound designer make truly dynamic and awesome to play presets.
Speaking of which, anybody know what Apple's policy on selling 3rd party sound banks for Alchemy 2 is (using the built in sample material that comes with Logic)? Simon, got any info or experience in this field?

Mikael Adle might be someone to ask, Simon has always used his own samples which is a neat way to get round this issue but I think Mikael's Alchemy 2 bank uses the built-in samples. I would guess if you are just selling the presets and not bundling the samples it's OK though.

As Stephen already pointed out, I've always used my own samples so I can't say how Apple feels about it. Given the fact that one can't edit or add “sound designer“ to an Alchemy 2-patch they might not like the idea but it could be just a bugbmanic wrote: Thu Jan 31, 2019 11:30 pm Alchemy v2 is an extremely capable synth indeed. Still, to this day, boils my p!ss to think how Camel Audio sold everyone other than logic users out by doing this.
Camelphat, camelspace, Alchemy were three awesome plugins and will never be updated nor improved again.
I used to respect them immensely when I started using their plugins and supported them.
I would never move to mac or logic now so I will always miss out on alchemy, and that leaves a very bitter taste.
Probably imo the biggest slight against music creators there's been. (Thats probably a thread on here on it's own for debate)

I mean...Money Talks. And Apple has a lot of it.
I am Not Necessarily saying I agree with them selling themselves to Apple, but when it comes to financial stability working for Apple is an understandable move.

I had the demo of Camel Audio's Alchemy. About 3 days after they sold to Apple, I went to their page to buy the full version, but sales were no longer accepted. I was very pleasantly surprised to see it show up in a free Logic update. It is probably my fave synth, and I have an instance of it in my main Logic template. I understand the upset that the sale has caused, though. But if someone hands you a winning lotto ticket, would you refuse?

Hey I can understand non-Logic users being unhappy. At some point that could be me too--I've used Windows before for music and depending on Apple's shenanigans I could go there again. (I dislike the direction and focus of Apple when it comes to hardware, but that's another thread.)
I get the same feeling when a manufacturer decides to go Windows-only. It happens, these companies are doing what they think is best for themselves, I'm sure most are not cackling in an evil fashion thinking of all the faithful users they've upset. They have families and life goals too

I think this is what it boils down to.
I have no idea how much money was involved...... But surely I imagine it is money that they make plans for their families. Certain money (which I think is why subscriptions are popular for some developers).
Selling plugins as a small developer must be hard, especially when the plugin is no longer much talked about and sales plummet. Must be so hard to make plans for your family without any idea of what kind of income you will be making in a few months.
I would be surprised if Apple didn't give them a nice juicy lump sum of cash/stock options and guaranteed employment for x amount of years with a specified salary.

Never jumped on the 'Camel-sucks' train, but that kinda makes me sick, actually. I'm not a Mac user. I've had/used Alchemy since its early beta. The interface is immeasurably better, loved the spectrum and waveform views.. the sound, and everything you showed. {sigh}Sampleconstruct wrote: Thu Jan 31, 2019 3:15 pm And re-synthesized/granular sound sources can now be multi-sampled reducing/eliminating the artifacts, especially with spectral re-synthesis and granular synthesis.
