although people may disagree on the nuances of what a loop record mode should do, i think the basics are pretty standard:
- you have a pattern of a set length
- the pattern plays to the end and repeats
- any notes you enter on any pass will be added to the pattern
this is how most hardware drum machines functioned since the emu drumulator and seq circuits drumtracks in the late 1980s. it is *standard* functionality.
i agree with previous comments that a few features - including loop record - added to fl would keep it in the big league. this is a need, not a luxury enhancement.
also notice how on ableton's first implementation of midi & vsti they made a very big point of advertising the "loop mode" functionality. i don't think that would have been inspired by just 10 noisy people. the ableton line says:
"Patterns can be built-up on the fly by overdubbing MIDI onto clips while they play in a loop."

I never really understood the "name change". You wanted to ditch the words "fruity" and "loops" so you call it FL? what does FL stand for?jeanmariecannie wrote:Here we go again ...xg2 wrote:Will you be giving FL Studio 5 a new name so you can get out of the 'Lifetime Free Upgrades' yet again?![]()
We changed the name because :
1. Kelloggs is after us because of their Froot Loops brand name
2. To most Americans 'Fruity' means gay (we didn't have a clue about this 6 years ago).
3. No (real) musician wants to be associated with 'loops' (implying he didn't write the music himself)

To people that don't know Fruityloops it doesn't mean anything but to the millions (150.000/month) of people that already downloaded/tried the demo and/or own the product it sure means a lot.JaseisMusic wrote:You wanted to ditch the words "fruity" and "loops" so you call it FL? what does FL stand for?

Hey, I'll gladly admit it...if you admit that you missed the class on trademark infringement.jeanmariecannie wrote:Guess you missed the class on "phasing out a product(name)" ...Igor 4000 wrote:You're in luck! I took a couple of marketing classes in college

I'm the one who missed that class, and I'm the one who was the most in favor of keeping the name - afterall those cereal suers would have lost their lawsuit the same way they lost all of the other ones, and all of the homophobic hip-hop guys who don't like the name could have gone f**k each other.if you admit that you missed the class on trademark infringement
As for the 'loop' name, I think there's still a need for drum machines, and if it's not FL it's gonna be another one..

The FL stands for Friggin Loser, if you are that concerned about the name of the software...

I guess they don't teach trademark laws that well in America... or perhaps Igor slept through the classes
These "trademark violation" comments, not just in this case, are always a good laugh
