Been using krk 6400 for like 5/6 year. Not the the most comfortable, I have take some breaks... but the sound and isolation are great.
Like RexXx said, I recommend trying before buying.

The Audio Technica ATH-M40s are a good choice. Great sound and isolation.

This is a bit out of left field but what about sound isolating in ear monitors like the Mackie mp-240?

Yep! I recently went on obsessive search for good, but cheap, IEMs for tracking vocals. Wanted flatness, comfort, and total sound isolation.Steve Bolivar wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2019 11:59 pm This is a bit out of left field but what about sound isolating in ear monitors like the Mackie mp-240?
The KEF M100's got lots of good reviews at a $100+ price point for high quality, but are being discontinued and clearanced because they failed, I think because they were competing in a market that wants that booty-shakin' bass. Also, they seem to want more power fed to them than a phone offers. Since you'll be feeding them from your interface, several reviews said they come alive then. You might want to research them. I'll probably buy a set next week.

From some reviewers, getting a set of Comply after-market foam buds also improves the sound -- and comfort level. You have to get the right barrel size, which I *think* is the 500's, but you should double-check if you decide to go this way.

For closed backs I stick with the tried and true Sony MDR-7506 but I use them mostly for tracking. That being said.. when I am on the road and traveling light I will bring these and will use them for some light mixing. IMO If you're going to be using these or any headphones to make most of your mix decisions then getting Sonarworks Ref4 or something similar would be ideal. As others have said be very aware that the soundstage can be tricky with closed backs, so when possible try using your monitors to make panning decisions.

I've used the DT 770 for mixing live performances, and they are good at cutting out a lot of the background noise - you can really gone in on your mix and pick out details even when there's all sorts of loudness going on around you. Another vote for the 770!

I bought a pair when they first came out and they snapped just before warranty ran out I got replacement set and they have been fine since then , great sounding headphones with great isolation.GearNostalgia wrote: ↑Fri Feb 15, 2019 4:38 pmNever heard of them, but now I checked em up and they seem to have a good sound, but there seems to be a lot opinions about them beeing uncomfortable to wear and breaking down easy. What is your impression about that?andymcbain wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 5:39 pm The Focal Spirit Professional. Discontinued but you should still find pairs kicking about. The most flat sounding and well isolated closed back I've tried... Inner fidelity would seem to agree.
I believe the first batch and weaker part but later batches had stonger part fitted . Highly recommended
If you can’t get them go for the focal listen pro

I use the KRK 8400 and yes, the sound isolation is great. For general listening I use Sony MDR-1As and isolation is very limited.

What do my KVR friends think of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones?
I've read good things about them elsewhere, but no one here has mentioned them yet. From what I've read, they offer very good isolation and sound.
