HI
Since selling my mixer I have found monitoring a drag, whereas I used to be able to set up my software host to output at optimum level and use the mixers monitoring level control to adjust the volume of my monitors now I have to keep adjusting my amplifier which takes the soundcard outputs.
As my alesis Amplifier has level controls for each channel this is getting pretty boring - I was looking for something like the Mackie big knob that can act as a go between, the only problem being its a bit pricey at £300 for a glorified volume control!
Are there any alternatives?

I was going to get the big knob, but got a Presonus Central Station after Eric at www.jrrshop.com recommended it.

1U rack mixer/monitor switcher/DAC and it has higher quality sound than the big knob. Havent seen anything else like it.
Here is a good review:

errr.. presonus or mackie are your only choices for a "monitoring" control at your price range.
There's quite a few others but... I dont think theres a point even suggesting them heh.

There's also the Samson C-control. Much cheaper than the Mackie big knob or presonus but still apparently pretty good. I had the same problem as you and went out and bought a mini mixer (Yamaha MG10/2) as I have use for it's mixing capabilities too.

I think it's twice the price of a Big Knob...mike.0 wrote:I was going to get the big knob, but got a Presonus Central Station after Eric at www.jrrshop.com recommended it.

My recommendation is the C-Control (as mentioned above)...

Yeah, but at least it's not built into the unit f**king up the signal..I'm using one of those Samson MDR 1604's as a sub mixer & the transformer built into the line away from the mixer's pretty nice..original flipper wrote:HI

Hey ...
I've got a C-Control sitting next to my Emu 1820m on a 1U rack shelf. Works a treat, and cheap!
