My understanding of the poll was, which two DAWs does one consider equal as far as features and performance and usability. I voted Cubase and StudioOne for that reason. I didn't vote what was my favorite or preferred DAW product.

I use Cubase and Cubasis but I think I would like to use Reason just because my favorite artist uses it and seems to get enitre records done and released using it.

But I can't be arsee to re learn a new DAW .

Out of interest: Who's that?

How can you really make a selection based on no prior experience. Listening to the hype I might say Live and Logic but because I have experience I say Reaper and Mulab. Reaper for audio recording and mixing. Mulab for inspirational midi fun. They are all really cool once you get to know them. They all kinda suck once you get to know them.

So I think this poll proves that the most popular DAWs are still the most popular DAWs. The first post states the criteria, there was no need to interpret. Which is, which would you take if they all cost the same? Unfortunately, it also said with "no experience" which means that almost no one reading here has a right to vote.

Personally, I think all of them are more-than-viable music creation platforms. Most are very powerful, none are perfect, some are better for some users/uses than for others. Try them all, use the one you find easiest and fastest, or inspires you the most. Then forget about it and make music.

Rundgren. He's a big Reason user. Apparently the myth he is spinning in recent interviews is that he doesn't use recording studios anymore. Everything he does he does on a laptop and Reason. Not sure I completely buy that one but .. who knows.

I haven't tried many, but I started with Cubase (before they started renumbering it with SX). I didn't like the GUI. It was far too crowded, and I didn't like the endless menus. I later bought an interface with a free early version of Tracktion (v1.6). The GUI was much more to my taste. The difference, as I've said elsewhere in the past, was like comparing the clutter of some "realistic" action cartoon or a martial arts video game with the simplicity and elegance of a Warner Brothers cartoon. One full of irritating distractions, the other letting you see what you hope to see.
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10, 32&64, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

I must say, my most recent peek at Tracktion Waveform was an eye opener. It’s vastly improved from a few years ago. (Just in case you were dismissing it as I was.)

:dog: No, no, the poll is:
What I mean by "all things equal" is . . . same cost (lets say $100), cross-platform (PC/Mac/Linux), and you have ZERO prior experience/investment with any any of them (but you do have your eMusic experience/not a total beginner).
--> Imagine every DAW costs exactly $100
--> Imagine the platform (Mac, PC, Unix) doesn't matter
--> Imagine you are not familiar with any DAW

What would you choose?

In North Korea, every DAW costs $100 and looks like Dark Wave Studio. :P

People really should spend their time on more useful things than such threads.

Do you think there are no computers in North Korea? I don't know, but I guess there are but mostly with pirated software.

A few people might have computers. Like... the upper one thousand. I bet, like in the former GDR, they cost a fortune, and can't do anything. Sad, sad nation.

If Logic was cross platform, it would fit my major criterion of 'all things being equal.' It isn't, nor will it likely ever be again. Sadly.
