i have almost agreed the sale on my house (can't really afford to keep it on while i go back to school and its in totally the wrong place geographically) i have been fortunate enought to be offered a lot more than i expected so to make up for my lack of bricks and mortor i feel like treating myself to something a little bit special.

i have been looking at a couple of things - the moog voyager anniversary edition and kyma (although i would prefer to get something solid and tactile with my money) but need a few suggestions and pointers as this sort of price range is somewhere i have certainly never looked before.

my criteria are the following:

1)no more than maybe £2,000
2)suitable for my style of music (increasingly longer ambient style wibbliness, most of you have probably heard some of my stuff by now)
3)preferably hardware, cos at this price i really wan't some furniture as well
4)a little bit special, i know this isn't really a criteria but at this amount of money i wan't something that will really blow me away :hihi: cos otherwise it will be a shit load of little toys

if anyone can give me any ideas, links to cool stuff, personal opinions - i would be most grateful 8)

cheers,

steve.

but yeah you want someone who knows about modulars before you make that kind of investment 8)

you could always pick up a virus classic for $1000, then you'd have some extra money kicking around to put towards bills, whatever.

got the bills covered, the £2k is all earmaked for a toy hopefully

have made >50% on my house in 2 years so figured i'd treat myself with a little bit of that unforseen cash(never likely to happen again)

but i understand that enjoyment is not always proportional to cost so am open to all suggestions.

would really like something that makes me "smile" tho in terms of both sound and look 8)

wont have the money for a couple of months yet anyways (takes a while for house sales to complete) so i've got plenty of time to look around/demo

cheers,

steve.

IMO 2000 pounds is not enough for a decent analog modular (my decent imaginary one is around $7000...so is the one that Scot has)...

I am also in the market for something similar (price-wise)...don't have the money right now and I'm left with two choices:

1. Moog Voyager -
it's analog, what more could you want
2. Nord G2 -
it's a Tangerine Dream heaven...

now...that was what I would do...

from what I could gather about your music, I reckon a Kyma would suit you well...

the only thing that puts me off about kyma is the lack of hardware (for this much money i really want some wood/chrome/lights :hihi: )

had a look at the nord g2 on the web this morning and that looks quite cool, also been looking at a cs80 and and arp2600. the voyager looks really nice (especially the aniversary edition)

cheers,

steve.

it's not like you don't get hardware with kyma tho :) you could glue some LEDs to the capybara... :)

i'll always want kyma/capybara, but i'm also attracted to the G2...

i think i'd probably be better off getting Reaktor and a dedicated PC for it tho... shit that's the best idea i've had in ages i think i might start saving up! ;) :D

sorry i can't help you spend your money steve :x :x
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.
