Hi, I’m in a drsperate need for medieval hunt horn samples/sample library. There is a library called Medieval Era by Best Service but it features a range of instruments and is too expensive for my budget. Can you recommend anything like that?

There are several single files in the freesound.org but each one sounds like recorded indoor or sounds not compatible to each other.

Could you take something like French horn samples and EQ them into shape? Not sure if that will work, but it might be worth a shot.

Know anybody who reenacts medieval battles? Not saying they all own horns, but they probably know somebody who has one. I know a guy who has several replica flutes, and the replica bagpipies which got sampled for Cowsynth, but I don't think he has any hunting horns.

I know the soundsnap sounds, thank you. Tweaking the french horn sounds can be a good idea but... I’ve finally found a solution! Bliwing in a hoover pipe gives a similar sound to the soundsnap samples! Thank you for your suggestions!

Sounds like you found a solution that doesn't suck.

Maybe Alpenhorn by Sonokinetic? If I were medieval I'd certainly hunt to it

This sounds too modern (well, yeah) and too tuned, the Zombie sugestion hits 10 if treated properly. The sound is rough and uncontrollable.

You can turn off the growl and it's perfectly smooth, like a giant wooden tuba only with a middle register as well. Anyway, hope you find what you're after

You can make these sounds with pvc pipes if you wanna set up mics and such. Tubas playing out of key and very soft will sound similar. Low passing the “buzz” out of almost any type of low brass and then making it sound “far away” with reverb. PVC is gonna get you the best sound if you need it to sound “close up”
