Instead of "best" .. how about albums that like completely changed your view of the band for the worse. Of course context and timing is everything. I have quite a few but I'll start with Yes!

I heard Your's Is No DIsgrace on my radio when I was 10. It was following the Dr. Demento Show that I used to stay up and listen to on a tiny transistor radio under my covers at midnight. It was followed by Berkley DJs playing full albums of all kinds of music. Anyhow, they played the new "Yes Album" and it was literally the reason I learned to play guitar.

Needless to say, I reveled in Fragile, Close to the Edge, I'm probably the only person on the planet the likes Tales and Going for the One is my favorite Yes album and a desert island record for me. Tormato and Drama were painful but not dreadful, but it was clear that they were about "done".

Then 3 years later we get news that Yes is coming out with a new record. I was in North Dakota in the AF at the time and it was a country and top 40 only zone. It was depressing. Not only that Steve Howe, Carl Palmer and John Whetton (UK) were coming out with a record with Geoff Downes!!!! What could be better. Then the first Asia album crushed me with it's total Popness and complete lack of any resemblance to the awesome stuff those guys did before. But, no worries the new Yes album is just around the corner...

Seemingly impossible 90125 was even worse than Asia Asia. HOW IS THAT F'N POSSIBLE.
Anyhow, haven't really liked anything from any of them other Chris Squire hooking up with Steve Hackett since. Most of it is downright awful. So I went from a drooling Yes nutter, to shock to total indifference since. Basically I found the 80s to be mostly unlistenable and pretty much not much has improved since. Just moving from one crappy cliche style to another, all the while dumbing down song structure more and more. Obviously there are exceptions. But 90125 f**king crushed my musical spirit for years.

Your turn :hihi:

I was a big ELP fan back in the day. Absolutely loved Trilogy and Brain Salad Surgery, but when Love Beach was released, they lost me. Everything from the lame compositions to the embarrassing album cover contributed to my WTF reaction.

HAH Love Beach would have been another one on my list .. I'm right there with you on that one.
I think Karn Evil 9 is my favorite prog song ever.

Cut the crap? I think they did exactly the opposite to the title of this album. Terrible way to go out, but probably a lot of it was to do with not having Mick Jones around and bringing in a bunch of session musicians and songwriters.
Sweet child in time...

Yea, I had the exact response.
Most of the previous recordings were very good but Love Beach.....

What's THIS For...!
At first, it was definitely WTF but I grew to love it.
But then I traded it at the used CD store. I forget why. And now I miss it.

Press the Eject and Give Me the Tape
It wasn't really a full WTF reaction but I grew to hate it. I traded it too.

I can always listen to "Terror Couple Kill Colonel" at YouTube.
I can maybe do the same for the entire What's THIS For...! album.

Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

Interesting album to choose. I really, really like Styx II, other than I can't stand the "Lady" song. But they totally lost me at Cornerstone. But yeah, Kilroy killed the band too evidently.
Pink Floyd, The Final Cut.
Yeah, that is such a weird, meandering, pointless release. But, oddly I've heard quite a few people declare it their favorite PF .. which of course I can't comprehend.

yeah, the post Roger Waters stuff isn't really PF if you ask me. It isn't bad. It just isn't Floyd. They are functionally just David Gilmour solo albums with better sales numbers. But since they aren't over the top bad, it's hard to put those in this WTF category.

The FInal Cut barely sounds like a record. It's more like studio leavings that were edited together against everyone's wishes.

Since Queen is so visible these days, Hot Spaces had to be one of those on the list. I don't like Another One Bites the Dust, but most of the rest of The Game is from ok to really good. After that .. meh. But Hot Space???? UUUUGGGGGHHHH

Third World...

Being a wonderful Reggae band in the beginning they turned into something we call "Kirmesmusiker" over here which can be translated as "funfair combo".

the cover is like a parody ... somewhere between the palmtrees must be some Monty Python member waiting for his appearence. :borg:
i've never been listening to the music or is it muzak?
