Faroe Islands population: 49,290 (2017)

UK has 1339.4 times more people than the Faroe Islands.

UK songwriters: 140
Faroe Islands songwriters: 3

Faroe Islands' songwriters has to be multipled 1339.4 times to match UK per capita.

1339.4 * 3 = 4018

By that calculation, Faroe Islands has 3878 more songwriters than the UK.

Sounds like it's the place to be if you want to make it in the music business...

The lists are suspect - immediately I noticed musicians being stolen by UK advocates - Adrian Belew is American I'm pretty sure (Minnesota?). Barry Gibb is Australian.

I agree this is pretty subjective, but if anyone ever asked me where most of my albums 'come from' I would have automatically said 'Britain, followed by America, Australia, Germany'. Of course that is based on my tastes as to what I pay attention to. If I were a country fan it would be USA all the way. An examination of most of my aquaintances collections would also reflect that, but birds of a feather perhaps.

SO... somewhere in my past it just became a subconscious given that UK leads. It may not be proveable statistically. SO... as a previous poster pointed out, the premise of the op is nonsensical. But I'm still throwing in my hat for the UK. During my time in the U.S. I have been educated that my feelings are actually factual because ' '. (You can't argue that, because I feel you would be wrong.)

Okay, my "research" is faulty.

But... does the Faroe Islands have bands like the Beatles and Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd and David Bowie, bands and songwriters that has sold millions or maybe even billions of albums worldwide?

Also, of those 3 songwriters in the Faroe Islands, how many are British?

I guess my "research" isn't complete. Now I, and I hope others like you, will check Billboard charts to figure out how much of the world have bought British and American music... the only two countries that are "true heavyweight contenders"? Okay, maybe Ireland and Canada and Australia are ""true heavyweight contenders" too.

Someone should start another thread. Something like "What Countries Do The Music In Your Music Collection Come From".
Hahaha. Too late, I just did.

Wait a minute, isn't Ireland a part of the UK?

I'm confused because that Wikipedia page has Ireland in there, separate from the UK.

"This list enumerates people who record and perform in the traditional singer-songwriter approach. These performers write their own material, accompany themselves on guitar or keyboards, usually perform solo or with limited and understated accompaniment, and are known as much for their songwriting skills as for their performance abilities."

Northern Ireland chose to remain in the UK after a civil war ca 1922.
