One of the reasons why I never got along with LPs. T'other one was the weight on my shoulder while standing.Deep Purple wrote: Thu Feb 28, 2019 4:32 pm Probably no harder than playing a Les Paul sitting down. I used to own one, and pretty much always played standing up as the amount of weight to the right of the curve in the body was so disporportionate to the weight on the left. Let go of the neck while sitting and you could guarantee the neck would flip up and the guitar would be on its way to the floor.
Pointy gits are not my cuppa, in any case. As for Dean quality, never tried one, but was looking at Dean 12 string electrics before I bought the Gretsch. Watched a demo of one on Youtube, wasn't impressed.
The quilted maple top on the one above looks nice, though.

So he is. Nice specs, although I'd have liked to hear a pure clean tone. I guess these weren't meant for surf music.
Never heard of 'trans-brazilia' wood, though.

obviously you haven't followed those 2... your chances of getting a clean tone out of Rob are next to zero. His idea of clean starts at the bottom end of what I consider high gain. It's actually a kind of running gag on their channel.

It's a whole other world to me, really. For me, hi-gain stuff is Hendrix, Led Zep, and Alice Cooper. In that ballpark.

Welll...as usual, I'd alway say it boils down to the old 'horses for courses'. You can play, 'the hi-gain metel' on any guitar in my view, as long as you've got the attitude and one good riff (from Whitesnake perchance..) and some oomph from the effects/amp..

I do apologize, I may have had a couple of light ales this afternoon.

Dean's have never impressed me with tone or build. I'm not now nor ever will be a metalhead.
I listened to some Dean boxes way back when while I was searching for the jazz box I own now. I went looking with an open mind but not an empty head. Glad I passed on them

yeah, your comment reminded me of that dude. Perfect example. Same thing applies to people using 335s and 175s for rock, or god forbid a tele for something other than countrydonkey tugger wrote: Thu Feb 28, 2019 7:43 pmSJ_Digriz wrote: Thu Feb 28, 2019 7:33 pm There was some shred metal guy playing a pink danelectro back in the day .. but I can't find the picture and can't remember his name. That's me point..I think for the metel it's not really ever that much about the geetar (obviously it's got to look the part..) but more about having the effective distortion/amp chugging sound. Beyond a certain level of playability, as long as it chugs ok, then you're laughing. Humbuckers of course better for the noise aspect, but not essential..
