Hey,
i went trough a super rough stretch the past half year (Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrom aka CPPS, like this guy: ) and as a result of the stress i think i lost a range of my hearing frequencies. I never measured my hearing capabilites before but now at the age of 31 i can hear from 60Hz to 14000Hz. My girlfriend for example can easily hear up to 18000Hz. I dont know how good i could hear before the stress. With stress i also developed a mild tinnitus.
I started music production as a hobby before i came down with CPPS and got me logic, fabfilter bundle, headphones, interface and some synths. Now i wonder what do i have to look out for to not damage my hearing further. Can i still make music? I guess i can not learn to mix myself. Thank you very much for some input.

yeah, go for it.
there are stone deaf musicians out there, so loss of frequencies is no excuse.

I can't hear past around 13k, but I'm 58. As long as you have the will, you will succeed. Nobody, afaik, mixes stuff to be heard by dogs. Not too much happening up in that range. I would suggest you mix on external monitors rather than headphones.

Yes, you can still make music. Half the people on this forum are half-deaf, including me. Worrying about the problem will simply make it harder to make music.
To quote Nike: "Just do it!"
One tip, listen to a lot of reference tracks, and use them to measure the quality of your mixes. Get to know your monitors as well.

I've lost much of my hearing too, and I make noise anyway
Maybe no one will like it, so what, f**k 'em, if you enjoy making music and sounds, do it for that alone.

The tinnitus is worrying. You have the ears of an average 40 year old. You should be able to do pretty much all of it still. Typical 30yo range is 1600mhz according to the inter webs, so you're not that off.
People freak out over losing high end hearing, but it's all super annoying pitches to begin with, and it's less than an octave in musical terms.
Considering the amount of mastering engineers over 40 I would think you're going to be fine. As long as the tinnitus isn't something that gets worse when you play music.

Lucky you. Have to crank up everything above 8k to hear it. Then, of course, dial it down again and follow these hints:

14k at that age isn't too far off the mark and you can't compare with women as their range is higher (evolutionary due to baby cries).

I didn't say I didn't have to increase volume to hear at that frequency, I do. While I never spent a lot of time with Marshall stacks behind me, I did and do have a tendency to listen to first my Walkmans and then my MP3 player too loudly. So, I'm glad it's not worse.elassi wrote: Sun Mar 03, 2019 9:48 pmLucky you. Have to crank up everything above 8k to hear it. Then, of course, dial it down again and follow these hints:
