Edit 05/03: Omnisphere is dropped as alternative to ST4 ,.. I am now open to all suggestions
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I remember all the troubles when ST3 arrived ,... and still they seemingly did learn nothing

Look at the 72 page long thread, I guess its even getting worse sinse ST3

Even worse, ST3 did not become my "go to" instrument in the long run, but just another disappointment

Relatively quickly I stopped using it at all

So obviously ST4 is not considered for my part, their messy business-model also turns me off

So how about Omnisphere ????

I would like to hear from users, especially users that went from Sampletank to Omnisphere, the sister-models to Omnisphere could be mentioned also for reference

Thanks in advance for any help :-)

St4 is a mess, i pre ordered, it was released like a week ago and is still unusuable, you made the right decision

Omnisphere is a beast, but it has a very different character than sampletank, I'm not sure if that's what you are looking for.

Sampletank is oriented for "bread and butter" sounds, acoustic samples of piano, organs, guitars etc...
Omnisphere has some of these, but it's mostly contain synth sounds and strange fx. If you don't own keyscape (which is a different product of the same company) you won't even have a single acoustic grand piano patch, for instance.

It all depends on what you looking for, comparing omnisphere and sampletank is like comparing oranges and apples.
If you indeed looking for acoustic sounds rompler, I'd suggest you buying kontakt (or even better, a roland/korg/yamaha workstation). If you don't care too much about having general midi type of sounds, omnisphere is great. Just youtube it and see if it suits your taste.

Thanks for the reply to my question that was a little naive, now I got a little "direction" to do my homework better, guess it will just be the good sounds from S1 the next long time, they have in my ears been better, and more useable than ST3 all the way, same even with the free Air expand :-)

It depends on what you are looking for.
Omnisphere is more like a Synth Workstation while Sampletank is more like the traditional Workstation with Pianos, synth sounds, guitars and so on.
Both are great instruments in their own category :)

If you want something similar to Sampletank that can also go beyond, look into HALion 6. It has bread and butter pianos, bass, etc, but can also do some really cool synthesis. Omnsiphere, which I have and love, is nothing like Sampletank. Like has been said, not even one grand piano. It's a synth and does some really strange stuff due to some of the odd samples that come with it.

I second this. Halion is more expensive, but is probably the next best thing close to Suckertank.

HM, like you Im kind of done with IK. I think Im gonna go back to soundfonts. Life was so much easier than.

Was surprised to see so many people spanked on st3 also get spanked on st4. Maybe two spankings in a row for samplespank will be enough not to be spanked again with st5 rolls out.

Omisphere is not for you. It is for optimistic yoga-driven vegetarian nerds, not for chicken :x :tantrum: .

With the way they grow their product line, it would seem like a rollout like this wouldnt be a problem. But yes, we got spanked.

I didnt get ST3 until like 2 years after they released it... really close to the time they put out Syntronik. With the advertised mod matrix in ST4 I thought I could use my existing ST sounds with this, but they built the new version and disregarded mod matrix ability for all legacy libraries.

Stuff like that, as a long time user, makes me quit throwing any money towards ST, especially when no other rompler or Sampler I know of disregards its traditional functionality; they just refine , build on top.

Any one remember Yellow tools Independence, now owned by Magix?
Another sampler with content, although the VSTi might be a bit old now, (but maintained irregularly ) the content is still valid...
Here is a link to the free version with 2GB content... there is a version with 12GB @ $90 or the Pro version with 70GB @ $220
https://www.magix.com/gb/free-download/ ... -software/

EDIT: You can also get just the PRO sans content and add libraries @ $45

Things like the mod-matrix issue, and lot more, need to be considered, the hole buisiness-model in fact, I feel your pain

After the latest T-Rack sale I kinda lost the interest in the compagny
