I remember when people asked why Omnisphere 2 got not more new synthesis features instead of something like Keyscape and whatever and the answer was that there are more piano/keyboard players out there than synth players/tweakers.
But of course any FX will make one ping only sound like any instrument in the world......depending on the drugs you take.
But yes, it is true that it is easy to let all sound like Korg 80s cheese synths.
Indeed there are many Grammy owners using Spectrasonics products..... :clown:

Hey don't get me wrong, I liked the 80s. I thought some of that stuff sounded really cool. Still does today. But there's more to music than just that. A lot more.

I also like the 80s indeed but i just mean that no FX will transform a Wavestation or M1 into a next gen synth but the other way is more easy.
Back to topic. Microtuning is one great thing of Omnisphere for me.
I even would prefer Omnisphere over Kontakt if i could get similar scripted multi-sampled expansions for it.

Halion is more expensive
It looks like you can purchase it second-hand for $145 here if anyone is interested (I'm not the one selling it, I just saw the thread): viewtopic.php?f=43&t=520662
Yes, Halion can be traded relatively cheap,..

Every now and then there also is a sale where Halion is reduced to half price as I seem to recall

Like already said, Halion and Kontakt is on the list,... the idea of getting a real sampler also is nice

MOTU MachFive 3 also comes to my mind ,.. seems it still exist ,.. but there have been very quite around it so many years, so I wonder if its dead or alive :-)

http://motu.com/products/software/machfive

Marchfive seems to have better filter-section than Halion

The bundeled content of sound is hard to judge, but SOS got some good words:

But then again, I can only finde old reviews, like time was frozen,..

Machfive was the predecessor to Falcon. The UVI guys, I believe, were behind Machfive's coding, which is why is has been stagnant since Falcon's release.
I read more than post = I listen more than I talk

Ahhh, yes, that's right !!!!

Seems to me that especially Falcon does not have an big enough "all round" library to replace ST, but is likely more of an synth or designer-tool, with a limited library included

Marchfive might have a bigger bread-and-butter library, but is not developed full hearted any more

They are both nice, some day I might look deeper at Falcon, but its not what I am looking for right now

A lot of time goes by reading reviews, investigate, and consider, I will give it a break for now,..

Right now I will just stick to the nice content in Studio One 4 Pro ,.. and lots other stuff that miss my attention for a long time

Studio rebuild has started also, new mixing desk, and lots of new Izotope and Eventide-stuff to explore,..

Thanks for all help, I will keep it in mind for later,..

For now I am just happy that I didn't walk into the ST4-trap ,..

The thread should be able to continue still

I corrected the headline slightly so it covers ALL alternatives to ST ,.. not just Omnisphere that is actually in another department

For me Halion 6 And Omnisphere are a great combination, and I'm really looking forward to the Omni update.

I own Sampletank 3 but lost interest and not installed it on my new pc, hope things work out for ST 4.

Layzer insults huge swaths of folks with most posts. Ha!

Anyhow, Omni and Halion are fantastic tools. Halion can be had cheap occasionally. I want to say 50% off last year at Sweetwater. If money smart, finance it and it is a small monthly. If not money smart, get a new hobby / profession :D

Ah yes, I believe this quote was originally attributable to Puccini. Amazing how it is just as relevant today.
