Well, I would suggest to get any of the latest issues of computer music. Not expensive and you get a lot. For your specific question about a „basic“ synth, you get the cm versions of dune and zebra (besides many more) with it. I think both are easy to use and versatile enough to have them around. The sound is also pretty good on these with a small cpu footprint.

Tyrell N6 is a high-quality basic synth. I recommend it.

If only its filter would be a bit more clean... makes it hard to create soft pads with it.Izak Synthiemental wrote: Tue Mar 05, 2019 10:59 pm Tyrell N6 is a high-quality basic synth. I recommend it.

+1 for Synth1 and Togu Noisemaker.

synth 1 will be your friend ...kvotchin wrote: Wed Mar 06, 2019 1:31 am Do any of those have saw, tri and pulse for each osc, also osc sync, 12dB and 24dB LP filter, etc.?

Synth1 sounds really horrible. It's really a few generations behind in terms of the oscillators and filters sound compared to Tyrell, Helm and Charlatan.

U-He synth quality, albeit feature-reduced, for free
A well-behaved signature.

Doesn't meet the criteria though. Hell, even a bunch of very expensive softsynths don't. Ugh.JerGoertz wrote: Wed Mar 06, 2019 5:58 am+1Izak Synthiemental wrote: Tue Mar 05, 2019 10:59 pm Tyrell N6 is a high-quality basic synth. I recommend it.

perhaps one of these, the fb3200 seems to have a 4 pole filter (is that 24db or 48db? looks like 24db, when it starts with 6db, a slope..), sync options not so clear. what do you mean with sync options?
i use the fb3100, wonderfull sound.

perhaps, perhaps, there are other synths he has made. all great.

Will check that out too.
Just to clarify: need 2 oscillators, each with saw, triangle and variable pulse, also separate level controls; oscillator sync; low pass filter that can be in 12dB or 24dB mode; white noise 'oscillator'; and of course an lfo and the usual two envelopes, with basic routing options.
With a strong preference for a large or resizable UI, and hopefully not eye-destroying colours / layout. Oh, and a high pass filter would be nice too, but at this stage ... whatever.
edit: Must be poly!
