HI

Just got my SXV3 upgrade from SXV2 - which was a crossgrade deal and it came in a letter package with just a DVD and registration card!

WTF!

Got straight on to Arbiter (UK distributors) who said even the boxed version doesn't have a manual and considering the deal how can you expect an 800 page one to be included :-o !

Well I didn't expect an 800 page manual (although there was over 800 pages of PC and MAC manuals and tutorials in a nice ring bound folder when I purchased Logic Big Box 2 years ago for £200, which is what I cross-graded with) but I did EXPECT some kind of printed tutorial or quick reference guide.

Is this for real or are they taking me for a shmuck?

My SX3 upgrade from SX2 came boxed with a getting started manual (and also a demo disc of hypersonic).

The rules may be different for those who crossgraded on their previous version. :?

Yup, I can confirm my upgrade from VST5.1->SX2 came with the "getting started" paper manual included. Everything else like the detailed operations manual etc was on the CD.

Somewhere along the line, you got done, mate.

nah my sx2 to sx3 upgrade does not include any kind of manual - i think if you got the cheap £10 upgrade you can hardly expect the manual - i know i didnt

Every version of Sonar I've ever had has always come with a very fat, well organized, in-depth manual...:P

Seriously? The upgrade was only a tenner? I've not actually been down to the local store yet, and I heard all kinds of different prices for the upgrade for recent SX2 buyers, ranging up to 140Euro. So I can get a $30 upgrade if I bought SX2 after July 31 or whenever the cutoff point was?

F*** me! I didn't have Steinberg down as being that sensitive about customer support at all. This is good news indeed! :D

HI

"You can't expect a manual" - Or whatever the comment was :x !

No, seriously - I had a major rant with Arbiter - I think a lot of people are happy to take it lying down but I ain't!

Look; to get MY MONEY Steinberg/arbiter offered me a crossgrade for £300 (this was a week before SX3 came out) from Logic with the proviso of a £10 upgrade to VER3 - I could have waited a week and just done a straight crossgrade to SXV3 but I wanted to go for it whilst I was feeling their crossgrade love.

To get to the point are people so accepting of 'the rules' that they can't think -WOW £300, thats a LOT OF MONEY - yes it is a HUGE sum of money and I wanted a printed guide to the basics of the program - is that too much to ask for?

I wrote the 'great vst price hike thread' some time ago but I should have swapped vst for host!

I WILL keep on ranting about the good, the bad and the ugly as I see it - I mean at least with Logic I got 1,000 pages of manuals, tutorials and reference material in both Mac/PC format and the bleeder at Arbiter has the cheek to say it's not in steinbergs interests to print a large manual!

Don't forget that these are big companies making big money - they need to consider the ease with which their products are received by 'new' customers.

I read at forum.cubase.net that Arbiter have no plans to print the SX3 manual due to the fact that they still have stock of the SX2 manual.

Perhaps if the printed SX2 manual had been released at the same time as the product itself (available with the upgrade at a small additional charge) they would have sold more copies? After a few months most people would either have printed the manual themselves or learnt how to use the software.

This is aside from the fact that the SX3 manuals are not ideally suited to being used in a "reference" capacity, try searching the operations manual PDF for "Alt" to see the list of uses this key has in the program, but a single complete list of these modifiers is not provided (as it is for the key commands) so the user has to read the entire manual to learn these "shortcuts".
