Not really -- not when in my 'confirmation' of the rumor I specifically stated that this was a CRAZY RUMOR and that I was a bit worried someone was going to start posting this all over the web (implying taking my reputation along with it and causing 3 different companies to call me to retract my words).

When someone specifically says Hey This is a CRAAAAAAAAZY RUMOR, that means its most likely not true and should be taken as not true even if posted by someone that has a bit of clout in the industry. I had to talk to one company head that personally thought I had taken it too far -- I had to give him admin rights to my forum to see the post in its original context (because we have been transitioning to InvisionBoards over the last few days) and he looked at it and stated...well...I'm not going to say what he stated as it wasn't polite, but summed up, he claimed that it was asinine that anyone could have misread what I had said.

That was the most pleasant conversation...the others were from lawyers...probably because I am known in some parts of the industry -- though I try to keep my forum life and my business life as far apart as they can be from each other -- and if I'm working on a project with anyone, I won't even comment on it until a few weeks after its in the hands of others. I don't put out rumors -- and this is one of the reasons we are kinda jerks about rumors on Sonik -- rumors mean nothing to anyone, and knowing insider info won't get you into the finest clubs any faster (well there was that year I blackmailed a friend into taking me to the VMAs :P).

But no, I'm setting the record straight because this has caused me some problems and I thought I was implicit in the second 'confirmation' post -- that happened only a few hours later -- that it was a wackjob of a post and not intended to be taken seriously. I'm sorry if I caused you any worries, and I don't know if English is your first language -- this causes problems in the web occasionally -- but it has caused me more. I'm sorry that it caused a 5 page post over here and I'm sorry to the guys at Microsoft, Apple, Emagic and Sony whom have mostly said while it wasn't clever, reading though my original statements, its obvious that it was a joke.

Take my statements with a grain of salt? This is the internet, man. If you take ANYONE at face value, you are going to get smacked down by someone -- though it looks like I was the one smacked down over the last two days...

We forgive you clif for your sins - now self-flagulate for an hour outside the steps of Sony and your pennance will be done. (Don't do this, it's a joke, Sony will sue me. :hihi: )

On a more serious note, making up a rumour like that isn't too clever because stranger things have happened and that's why we ran with yours I think. :( It's the age of the take-over so everyone's wondering who's next.

Well in the context that everyone was theorizing ProBand was the new name of Logic -- and I know for a fact this isn't the case and Apple said so publicly several times (they won't say what proBand is, but they will say its not Logic) -- but the fact that idiots were convinced Apple was going to convert the software to a Loop Player type app leaving the artists that have to have a physical instrument in their hand out of luck, it made sense to post a stupid rumor to stop other stupid rumors.

You'd have thunk others would have thought it was stupid as well.

You get crazy conspiracy theorists -- I had one guy what would always start his posts off claiming that he knew I was the son of a Mason and thus Sonik was part of the Illuminati -- and here I was thinking my dad liked to get drunk and put on funny hats and drive tiny go-karts in parades -- I didn't realize that he was part of a greater world conspiracy.

And no matter what you do, you can't convince these folks that they are wrong and for the most part fricken nutso. To do so, just makes them believe they are even more nuts.

So I posted a rumor that I said was nuts and that I implied that anyone that took it seriously was too nuts and even prophesied that some nutso was going to post it in every forum in the world. Folks had the links to the forums (err...before it went down to get moved over -- the link is active again) -- yet the only thing that was posted in the Confirmed Section was "I Thought This Was Public Knowledge" ignoring the part about me saying that this was just insane. Anyone of ya'll could have looked at it and seen the original poster wasn't giving you the whole story.

But, would I be surprised if Apple were taken over by Sony -- or the other way around? No I wouldn't. But if I read the confirmation notice, and read it instead of just picking random sentences out, I would have seen that it was bogus and stated rightly so by the author. Sadly, I shouldn't have to even post THIS IS A JOKE, but thats what its getting down to these days. its the entire Emoticon world where folks can't understand humor or sarcasm without a dozen :D  8) :hihi: thrown in. I know the english language is getting watered down as it slowly becomes the world language (I really wish I was as smart as most europeans I knew that all knew 3 or 4 languages -- but I don't, I'm an American and we really don't need a reason to speak multiple languages anywhere in the world, which to me is sad). But cripes, even if you struggle with the language, there are universals that would have noted that this is nuts without even the second post (which was read before posting here).
