Is Audacity considered a DAW? Or just an audio recorder/editor that can also load VST plugins?

Cakewalk is absolutely fantastic; but Tracktion just fits my brain better, since it's a zillion times easier to use plugins: you just drag and drop.
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

I have purchased a licence since Tracktion 1 but I stopped at T6. I was fed up of constant crashes on OSX and the lake of compatibility with some plugins. I got in touch several times with the support team with no success. I tried Waveform 8 demo and the same bugs were still there, so I gave up.dellboy wrote: Thu Dec 27, 2018 6:03 pmPeople hate Waveform - why ?vitocorleone123 wrote: Wed Dec 26, 2018 5:58 pm
I'll stick with Waveform (which I know other people hate).
I have a license for Waveform 9 but rarely fire it up. Its a very capable DAW and very easy to use. Why anyone should hate such an inoffensive DAW makes me scratch my head. I can understand people hating Reaper, its one of those love - hate DAWs. You either love it or hate it. But hating Waveform is a new thing to me.
It's a shame, the one window design is inovative and usefull. I will perhaps give it another try under Linux.

You can drag and drop from the browser in CbB too, both FX and instruments.Jafo wrote: Thu Dec 27, 2018 7:21 pm Cakewalk is absolutely fantastic; but Tracktion just fits my brain better, since it's a zillion times easier to use plugins: you just drag and drop.
Anyway, for instruments I use track templates. I have the track set up with color, icon, and save versions of it in a folder for that instrument with my favourite presets ready to go. You can include FX and even output bus(ses), multioutput audio channels, or whatever you need to setup. Then you can drag and drop the template from the browser, too.
It cannot get easier than that, IMO.

A Cubase LE 10 license can be bought on Ebay for a few dollars.
The license will activate of Steinberg servers and allow a discounted upgrade to a higher version of Cubase.
Anyone know how they get hold of these licenses ?
Are they legit ?

Do you mean the seller of such license? Buy getting it through a hardware purchase of certain midi controllers or audio interfaces. And these are legit.dellboy wrote: Sun Mar 10, 2019 8:15 pm A Cubase LE 10 license can be bought on Ebay for a few dollars.

Yes, they are legit, but its the ones on Ebay that puzzle me.hlecram wrote: Tue Mar 12, 2019 9:11 am

They are selling licenses that connect to Steinberg servers and authorize ok,so they also seem to be legit. I see that the German music magazine "Keys" was giving away Cubase LE 9 so maybe they got them through there.

Reaper is quite hard to beat for 60$. Also, if you're just using it to mix & master: Harrison

I also vote for Waveform 10. The everything on one screen and the composition generating midi are great for new users. I LOVE Collective (Synth Sampler) and Multi-Sampler are great tools. I also appreciate the MIDI editing even on the main screen. I have Bitwig, Cubase, Studio One 4 and I use Waveform 80% of the time.

Bitwig is my DAWs and UHe and Tracktion Synths are my Bae. I maybe buy one synth a year. REMEMBER SELF just one synth a year!

Before the Sonar situation I would've said Reaper, but Cakewalk is free (as in $0.00), which for a 'full' DAW is pretty fantastic so I'd recommend that. After that I'd probably say Tracktion.
As mentioned previously, don't discount Garageband if you have a Mac.

You guys can get a legit version of Cubase LE 9 via German Keys magazine for 17€, which is probably the best bang for the buck you can get, since the LE version of Cubase has less limitations than most other DAWs lite versions. You even get some of their advanced instruments and I believe their channel strip mixer thing that they introduced since Cubase version 8 I believe!hlecram wrote: Tue Mar 12, 2019 9:11 amDo you mean the seller of such license? Sorry to say, but Reaper does not stand the groud against Cubase. Yes, you can customize every little aspect of Reaper, it's quite CPU and memory efficient and you can run oldschool 32bit VSTs without any issues, but other than that it's a total mess. Barely usable if you just want to compose and mix music in a straightforward manner.
Here is the link to the Keys website of the Cubase LE 9 special issue:
