I'm surprised NI can't just make the GUI switchable at least in colors, and offer multiple color combinations.

It's not that they CAN'T. It's not that it isn't impossible that they'd offer some color schemes down the road in an update. Depends on internal prioritization of what will be done in what sprint etc.

i haven't tried reactor but to me, its not that bad the colors. it looks modern. i am sure once its out, people will get used to it. i am almost 100% sure a company like NI don't make products without putting a lot of thought and research into usability design. they did all sorts of research on usability to settle on what those screenshots of what it seems massive X will look like on a computer screen.

And yet, the usability of Reaktor isn't all that great.
The way you have to open an instrument alone, seems to stop quite a lot of people from using it.
(You can resolve this by creating an DAW preset with the instrument opened in Reaktor but this is not common knowledge (and also a workaround)). Preset system is a little disaster.

So how big a company is, is not always a reference.

reaktor contains a serviceable graphics editor ...
the ability to provide for change of background colors is well within NI's reach ...

If I recall correctly, you said you hated the Reaktor interface / workflow.

Seriously. I have three instances of Reaktor 6 in current project.
2 are Kontour, I had the channel saved and instantiated it; one is changed enough to save as its own name. Snapshots tab, 'ADD'.
The other is Monark. I know where it is, in FAVORITES and drag and drop the .ens. The preset browser is pretty much like anything else and includes what I did in 'ADD'.

If you mean literally the instrument inside an ensemble there is nothing really to compare it with since being able to build synthesizers from a GUI at this level is pretty much unique. I grant it's not for everyone, nothing is but that's a weird-looking argument.

Generally I save with project; the 'save as channel set' and 'save a snapshot/preset' are redundancy strategies. I can merge any project in which contains the sound I want to start with (needing attention to order of channels) at worst

I hate the preset management system, which is why I never make patches for any ensemble. I think it is an abomination and should have been aborted at birth.

The sounds itself? Love Reaktor stuff, especially the blocks stuff.
