Hi,

I am looking to compile a list of top VST fx plugins that doesn’t require internet connection when using them?
Which high quality compressors, eq’s and reverbs don’t require being online?

Just off the top of my head (from the plugins I use), Valhalla DSP and Tokyo Dawn Labs plugins don't require an internet connection to use (you download license files when you purchase them) and all of the Plugin Alliance plugins can be authorised offline too.

I think it's actually pretty uncommon for plugins to need an internet connection to use them although some may require a connection to register them (even iLok doesn't require you to be online once you've activated your plugins).

I can't think of any software I use at all that requires an internet connection (except for network software like email and browsers, and a few "one time tasks" like installers, which includes bits of Windows, of course...).

The better question is, what plugin requires internet access to use outside of sampler browsers like Loopmasters, Splice and Noiiz obviously.

I like this idea. If it were me though, I'd limit it a bit further and list high quality effects that use serial number or keyfile only. C/R or iLok are both trouble. Before a war starts, let me state that I'm not looking for controversy, but rather that I'm looking for a similar list, and serial number and keyfile are the best ways to avoid having to use any sort of activation. :-)
C/R, dongles & other intrusive copy protection equals less-control & more-hassle for consumers. Company gone-can’t authorize. Limit to # of auths. Instability-ie PACE. Forced internet auths. THE HONEST ARE HASSLED, NOT THE PIRATES.

The reason why I posted this thread is I’ve had issues with some plugins using
PACE iLok, iLok Cloud, Gobbler and other licensing software. As a result I would like to steer away from these types of License management programs.

PA, Sugar Bytes, Audio Damage, Uhe, Valhalla, Melda, DDMF, Klanghelm, Admiral Quality, D16 ... tbh I cant think of anything I have that has to be online to work (or activate).

I had loads of these online installers/licensing software on my computer and started getting loads of CPU spikes and audio glitching. At the time I had the following types of licensing software installed :-

Waves Central
iLok License Manager
Acustica Aquarius
Gobbler
East West Installation Center
Native Instruments Access
Toontrack Product Manager
Steinberg e-licenser

I deleted the first 5 of these and now no longer have any issues at all. I am pretty confident that the iLok license manager (PACE) and Gobbler were causing issues but am also a little nervous about using any of the others I deleted. That is a real shame as I particularly like the LiquidSonics, Softube and some of the Waves VST’s. I may give Waves Central another go as I’m not sure if this one was causing any issues.

at least waves central and ilok license manager don't run all the time. license is checked on plugin load... They'll hardly introduce any cpu spikes or glitches.

FabFilter, HOFA, toneboosters, UAD don't require online connection.

Plugin Alliance plugs use C/R...... Or does "PA" mean something else? :-)

I'm very partial to Audio Damage plugins. :-)

They do, but you can do offline activation if you prefer, by downloading the license file.

Absolutely true. Such a detailled list would really be useful, preferably publicly accessible (eg a Google doc). Just a list of developers and their respective copyright scheme. Maybe the possibility to filter or order the list according to the individual preference, eg if someone wants to avoid iLok or C/R or plugins that require online access, then we can exlude these entries from the listing.
