How would I go about finding a music related career without any formal experience?

I have an Associates Degree in fine arts but did not major in music specifically.
I have tried to work for free at various studios in my city (Houston), but have not been able to find any volunteer work.
During my free time, I write, mix, and master EDM music.
At this point though, I would be happy if I could find any job as long as it has something to do with music (and pay a basic living). I would love to do mastering and mixing at a studio preferably.

knock up a portfolio of your work.
hit the clubs, djs and other artists playing out live.
give them a copy of the cd, tell them your goals of mixing and mastering, offer them reduced rates.
sit by phone.

basically, make contacts.
without this, you got nuthin!

Bob Dylan seems to be the ultimate busker. He busked a lot in Greenwich Village early on.

Eventually, he did his job in the studio a lot. Singing, playing acoustic guitar and harmonica, in the studio to make a record, counts a a job in the studio?

That you find the question needs to be asked on the internet is the total sign.



Busking, a lot of seriously great people have done it. You find it depicts 'homeless person'.
Jimi Hendrix was a homeless person in NYC at one time. Grow up.
Musicians need to eat, so some do it.

Maybe you're not a musician, since we see: <music-related>... oh wait, EDM. Yeah you'll have nothing to show out there on the street in all probability.
So, work in promotion, work at a radio station, get a job in the record store, who knows. Get jobs that are less than your dream is and be humble. You have to be out in the world in frequent contact with people. Unknowable, what it takes for a person we don't know at all.

i dont see many ppl busking as an in road to a mixing/mastering job in a studio

in fact, ive never seen one

busking might get you in a studio, but they dont want 'artists' that side of the glass

work on your craft and keep trying...
