he didnt say he wanted to be famous
How would I go about finding a music related career without any formal experience?

I don’t care what he said. If he wants a job easily, he should get famous

Have you mixed or mastered other people's music? it might get you started at least ... another option is DJ sets or doing Live PA stuff. If you're any good (and lucky) you'll get noticed, and get to meet people on your local music scene.CircuitTree wrote: Wed Mar 27, 2019 2:54 pm II write, mix, and master EDM music.
At this point though, I would be happy if I could find any job as long as it has something to do with music (and pay a basic living). I would love to do mastering and mixing at a studio preferably.
... and listen to what Justin says. He knows what he's talking about.

Why should I? It is a good advice. If you want to advice him to go from studio door to studio door with no formal training like a begger, it is all on you.

Exactly. Seriously.
It might not be happening now nowhere as much as it might have happened in the past but...
there are a few ex buskers that ended up as producers... and producer is a job in the studio...
and all because they got famous and filthy rich another way.
http://www.roadjunky.com/guide/busking- ... s-buskers/
Beck is in that list above. Beck is now more a producer than a singer songwriter?
Maybe there's a lot more famous musicians whose progression is something like busker then songwriter then producer.
In that famous buskers link above, David Byrne of the band Talking Heads is also listed. Isn't he also a producer?
And according to the link below, David Gilmour of the band Pink Floyd was a busker.

Here is a quote from that article:
"DAVID GILMOUR and ROGER 'SID' BARRETT from the band Pink Floyd, met as children in Cambridge, England.
Later, whilst studying at the Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology, they began playing guitar together.
In 1965, they spent a summer hitchhiking and busking around the South of France"
And according to another link below, David Gilmour is also a producer.

Leg work... hard graft.justin3am wrote: Wed Mar 27, 2019 8:05 pm It requires a lot of leg work and building relationships with people who will likely try to use you.
Ultimately, it's about making friends with the people who have the position you want to have. Or at least have a visible path to the career you are looking for.
I was homeless for a period of time, so that may be in your future after all.![]()
In 1975 I bought a Dokorder 4 track (it was a cheap kinda Teac, with same tracking methods but only 7.5 inch sppol).. I also had a day job wiring power standby systems.. At night I would drive to "music" pubs and record the live bands and hopefully sell them the tape.. It was a gamble>>> thing is I got to learn mixing in many situations and after a while I became so proficient that the bands would call me in to mix their important sets and get paid.. it took a few years.
Through contacts I had made along the way I was informed of a job at Trident, where I wired up the legendary A and B range mixers.
I won't bore with the rest of my music/sound business work..
Point is hard graft... many challengers... the determined get there.. if they make their own luck!
hahah.. oh yes.. the homeless dayyyzzz... another story...
BTW... practice practice and a portfolio.. here is a site with stems to mix... many styles... this is what PROs can do... BTW, I also did lo of radio and TV sound design/mixing.. anything.. and loved it all.

Short story but very typical of all music related jobs.
A guy in my home town liked music and bands. He hung around untill somebody gave him something to do. He put together a primative light show with actual house switches. This led to other bands that had real equipment. Later still to national touring acts. Finally to having complete control of lighting design and production of one the worlds most famous Rock bands in history.
Maybe they will show off his work in The Dirt.
Love what you do.

Plenty are operating from home project studios and ones you are visiting are most established ones mainly there to record bands, performers and orchestras, they already have an amazing engineer with his assistant working there, there's barely even jobs for tea boys anymore, things changed a little.CircuitTree wrote: Wed Mar 27, 2019 2:54 pm I have tried to work for free at various studios in my city (Houston), but have not been able to find any volunteer work.
During my free time, I write, mix, and master EDM music.
Also you are into EDM, what you can do right now is to offer your volunteer work to local EDM artist's, performers, DJ's and who ever needs something done, mixing, mastering, ghost producing, anything, get to know people who know people and have them owing you favors, start working ASAP.
