What is Reason? New promo video from Propellerhead

Since acquisition by an investor Propellerhead does (mostly) right things to put Reason back on the DAW map. It still has lots of very active & passionate users (hi ReasonTalk!
) and as the video says you hear it often on the radio or Spotify without even knowing, but new producers that started in last 5 years have probably never heard of it or it looks alien to them, unlike any other DAW on the market.

Nice little video, I like how they produced it to give just the right amount of information and still keep the time short enough so as to not lose viewers interest.

Use two monitors.
Use Reason on a lower resolution screen and have a high resolution monitor for your desktop or whatever.
This still works really well when you're working with music production software when the "sound" is the real focus.

That's not a fix, that's a compromise. Even at native 1080P resolutions, the rack is tiny, as is the SSL Mixer text. You can forget trying to use Reason at 1440P as well.V0RT3X wrote: Thu Mar 28, 2019 2:24 amEasy fixrbx11 wrote: Thu Mar 28, 2019 2:01 am It’s a DAW that still looks like garbage on a high resolution screen.![]()

Should I talk about how amazing it looks in 4k, or how terrible it is at =<1080? Perhaps talk about how incredibly fun it is just messing around, or how bad it is keeping up with DAW improvement? Maybe even talk about how great some of the Props instruments are, while at the same time ruining their RE development program?
For all the support I throw towards Reason, while pointing out the areas its sorely lacking, people generally only want to hear one or the other. At RT you better just gush gush gush and blow smoke up Props ass. Around here better trash trash trash, UNLESS the dev shows up which then brings out the RT guys.
Few can make an honest individual assessment about anything without taking a hard side. It ends up pissing off a lot of people who can't compute such brilliance... but I'll take it.

She uses Reason and she's a professional voice over actress. Why wouldn't she do the voice over?
Per definition I'm a millenial too. That doesn't seem to have bothered anyone throughout the years. I've been demoing Reason/making videos since 2013 and now I manage Reason. Guessing something else is the problem.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Reason sounds great and has some unique features- Periodicaly I re-try it when they do some big new launch (same with FL Studio) as I know some poople love it....but for me the way it looks (I am on 32 inch 4K) is very offputting and it isnt so great that I feel the need to buy a second monitor just to us it. I also find the workflow strange, the entire paradym seems a bit dated compaired to modern one window DAWS like Studio One, Bitwig and even Cubase has moved that way...I prefer 'racks' and mixers that are just fuctional and clear (like Bitwig or Live) rather than trying to look like hardware, but maybe thats just me.rbx11 wrote: Thu Mar 28, 2019 2:01 am It’s a DAW that still looks like garbage on a high resolution screen.![]()
Reasons big selling point seems to be the inclusion of so many instruments and fx, but to be honest, thats the last thing I want from a DAW- I have 100's of professional instruments and FX and rarely use the ones in DAWS...but if you are new and don't already have a massive collection of VSTs then it has great value as an all in one package.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

^^ Yup. I believe thats the jist of the debates about Reason. There are some other threads on here about the 3rd party VST support and the work that still needs to be done by propellerhead on it. I am on the market for an upgraded DAW and was seriously looking at Reason, but am waiting now to see how it pans out because I am in the same situation. I don't need a DAW that works well only with the included VST's by the vendor (regardless of how great they may), I need one that works with all the VST's I invested in.SLiC wrote: Thu Mar 28, 2019 9:06 amReason sounds great and has some unique features- Periodicaly I re-try it when they do some big new launch (same with FL Studio) as I know some poople love it....but for me the way it looks (I am on 32 inch 4K) is very offputting and it isnt so great that I feel the need to buy a second monitor just to us it.
