Below are some software that I own for creative purposes:
* MATLAB
* Cinema 4D Studio (R20)
* 3D-Coat 4
* Substance Designer
* Substance Painter
* RedShift 3D
* DxO PhotoLab 2
* Affinity Photo
* Affinity Designer
* SketchBook
* Davinci Resolve 15 Studio [paid version]
* HitFilm Pro 12 [paid version]
* Xara Page & Layout Designer 11
* ConceptDraw Office 5
I am seriously thinking of purchasing a perpetual license of MODO 13, which was recently released, later this year.
Now that Allegorithmic is own by Adobe, I will more than likely discontinue further investments in Substance Designer and Painter.

Regarding Touch Designer: It may be a funny tidbit in this thread that it's origins are from an early version of Houdini. You can still find some of the odd Houdini terminology in there and some of the logic (if you want to call it that) of Houdini "Chops" - one of the more obtuse parts of Houdini. I personally never warmed to TD though, as much as I love Houdini...
https://cables.gl is more to my taste, although not as deep. The good thing is that it runs natively in the browser.
I'd love to work with Notch for realtime, but that is a bit too heavy when it comes to licensing for my uses.
Cheers,
Tom

One if the founders of Derivative (makers of Touchdesigner) was also a founder of SideFX (makers if Houdini). The two systems share the code base (or at least used to).

Inkscape & Gimp - (got tired of paying to update the CorelDraw Suite, went Open Source)
Visual Studio Community
Visual Studio Code - (love it, great lightweight multi-purpose editor)
Sony Vegas 10 - (no need to update to the Magix iteration)
iClone - (really fun animation app)
OBS - (arguably one the best free things of it's kind)
VoiceMeeter - (handiest thing ever for routing things around in sucky Windows audio)

I’d imagine that your employer paid for the workstation and software?pekbro wrote: Mon Apr 01, 2019 6:35 pm Houdini pricing has gotten way better. When I first started using it, the full package was $17k, add that to the 10k for your SGI Workstation and you were good to go.![]()
I’ve dabbled in Nendo and Mirai by Symbolics in my younger days. Most 3D packages nowadays are far too technical and not really for artists. I prefer modellers with streamlined workflows, since Autodesk killed off Softimage there hasn’t been any.

be used to make money in the entertainment industry, when not tied up with Asteroid
impact simulations and whatnot. Sadly, the program was ultimately a failure.
*I still have a copy of Nendo actually...

If you already have Cinema 4D R20 Studio, then I'm puzzled why you would be wanting Modo as well. I've a friend that I've known for over 10 years that used Modo used up to version 9... and was really just getting frustrated with how it was being developed, thus he spent some years wanting to pick up Cinema 4D, he's on C4D R20 atm and he uses Redshift too... this is his website https://www.artstation.com/rectroSilaris wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2019 1:45 am Below are some software that I own for creative purposes:

Interestingly and something that I wasn't aware of, was that there is a free non commercial version of Mari which doesn't impose any watermarks, and has a 4K resolution limit, and also Nuke with has a 1080P resolution limit (besides a few other limitations). Personally I've been aware of them since they came out, I still have a small mountain of 3D World magazines which I bought years ago, that I just use for reference now.. but never actually tried them out, so I'll be exploring these over the next few days I think.

DxO PhotoLab 2 and * MATLAB I've never heard of or barely rings a bell with me, so will check them out...
The others I'm aware of like Substance Designer and Painter and I didn't know that Adobe was going to swallow those apps, and if so.. well that doesn't bode well or interest me given their subscription focus. The number one reason I actually bought Photoshop CS6 before they killed perpetual licences.
3D Coat is one app that I've always considered to be a more limited variant of ZBrush feature wise. Can't remember if I had tried it out or not... should be interesting to find out what's changed with it though as the GUI is easier to get a handle of I think.
I found Affinity Photo pretty crash prone when tried it a few years back, whilst the Designer package seemed ok, and actually interested me more as a replacement for Adobe Illustrator CS2 that I still have as part of the CS2 Production bundle.

If I do purchase Modo, which is not a certainty, it would purely be an action based on software lust. Cinema 4D is great, and with RedShift, it covers all my 3D modeling needs. Nevertheless, I have been a big fan of Modo for years and regularly demo the new updates or versions when they're released. In addition, I love having options available in my 3D pipeline, which is the reason I purchased 3D-Coat and other tools.THE INTRANCER wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2019 10:41 pm If you already have Cinema 4D R20 Studio, then I'm puzzled why you would be wanting Modo as well.
DxO PhotoLab is similar to Adobe's Lightroom, a raw photo editor. MATLAB is an engineering application that I use more at work than at home these days. The version I personally own is several years old, but still works on my PC. It is capable of many things, including very cool mathematical simulations with visuals.THE INTRANCER wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2019 10:41 pm DxO PhotoLab 2 and * MATLAB I've never heard of or barely rings a bell with me, so will check them out...

Photography is my main hobby/sidehustle these days, along with some basic cinematography, so Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro X get lots of use.
