Valhalla Delay released

I was also a bit disappointed first when I saw the UI because of the supposedly lack of unique features that could differentiate from other delay plugins.
But the more I think about it the more I think the goal with ValhallaDelay here is, just like most of Valhalla stuff, to stay as straightforward as possible. Instead of giving a huge "build yourself your delay with these 136 crazy parameters" kind of delay, Sean probably chose to integrate all the quirkiness/weirdness and unique features hidden directly inside the "modes" and "era".
So in the end I remain very curious. Considering the time he spent developing this plugin, no doubt the modes will sound detailed. I just hope there's more than just "BBD" and "Tape" tho...

The gui clearly shows greyed out buttons for modes that are not in use , four greyed out taps for a multitap mode .foosnark wrote: Sun Mar 31, 2019 12:26 amYou're saying this based on not knowing:DJErmac wrote: Sat Mar 30, 2019 3:18 pmOh no, I'm not talking about the GUI itself, I already own some Valhalla products. I'm talking about the parameters we can see : too classic. No ducking, no complex multitap, no reverse...
-- how many modes there are besides BBD and Tape.
-- whether there's anything else under "era" (likely nothing else but we don't know)
-- what else is under "style" aside from Single and Dual (there's a lot of space left on that dial)
-- what other GUI options might dynamically change based on mode/style/etc.
-- what "Age" does
-- how the (visible) multitap options work
And importantly:
-- what it sounds like
So I don't think that a lot of parameters will (re) -appear depending on the modes .

Era is probably, well, era (60's-70's, 80's-90's, present) and age is how "used" the tape/unit is.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sat Mar 30, 2019 4:16 pm I'm curious as to what the Era option does considering there's already an age feature.

The BBD screenshot shows Rate and Depth under Mod, while the Tape screenshot shows Wow and Flutter.gentleclockdivider wrote: Sun Mar 31, 2019 9:10 am The gui clearly shows greyed out buttons for modes that are not in use , four greyed out taps for a multitap mode .

Single shows "Delay" and "Spread" knobs whie Dual shows "Delay L" and "Delay R" knobs.
I'm not saying the whole GUI is going to be rearranged, but controls clearly have some different contexts.
We can infer there's a mode with at least 4 taps that can be enabled, and with two knobs above that, perhaps there are modes where one knob is initial delay and the other controls tap spread or acceleration/deceleration.
I guess I shouldn't try to stop people from being disappointed in advance based on limited evidence, if they can be excited even further in advance based on assumptions made from no evidence

My suggestion to fight any anti-hype:
Some violins cost 500 $, some others cost 1,000,000 $. Why is that, when all violins have the same sparse GUI with only four knobs and four sliders? It is the manufacturer and the sound that makes the difference! So don't judge a plug-in by just counting GUI elements. Have a listen.

This thread is Sean's version of Let's you and him fight! After the fans and detractors fight it out to the bitter end, he announces that, due to extraordinary level the interest in Valhalla Delay, he has taken an offer and sold all his plugins to a major player. New versions to support OS updates after April 1 2019 will be $249.

Fair enough, but personally I am really super glad that you were totally off with your expectation as I would have absolutely zero interest in that.DJErmac wrote: Sun Mar 31, 2019 1:02 am I think I expected a complex multitap (because I thought they would make it as different as possible from Valhalla Ubermod to avoid any overlap). I love to apply a distorsion to the first tap, then a reverb to the second one, a filter to the third one... But this is not a complex multitap : I'm out, so nevermind my opinion.
What I am looking for is much rather something that would finally fill the void that VOS NastlyDLA left and this new Valhalla delay seems like it could fit the bill.
The closest so far is perhaps Boz' Imperial Delay, and that's way off.

Me too, looking forward to trying it.jens wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2019 7:12 amWhat I am looking for is much rather something that would finally fill the void that VOS NastlyDLA left and this new Valhalla delay seems like it could fit the bill.
Too bad this delay does not have ducking, NastyDLA had it more than 8 years ago.
