omg... shit i might have to get me Diva&Repo to be complete...
Would highly recommend honestly...They are both Incredible.
Bought them this year on the NI Deal and instantly fell in love.
The post above this is likely bait, viewer discretion is advised.

I don't think TAL-Mod shouldn't be considered here. Severely under-the-radar-yet-amazing-sounding synth.

It happens man.
They aren't crazy expensive thankfully...

If you get any one first, In my opinion get Diva as (to me) its more purely flexable with the 5 different OSC Modes and amazing Filters. But as you could tell by the sound Demo Repro (And R5) is simply amazing and genuine sounding as well...

Also if you want something free that is similar try U-he's Tyrell because that also sounds Incredible and it's for the low low price of 0$ :hihi: .

Purely sound quality based in no particular specific order, I go with..

1) Serum
2) Sylenth1
3) Rapid

4 - 10 is any synth, based on being slightly less good sounding than those 3 IMO.

I agree 100%, ArcSyn is a gem. :tu:

out of the equasion, until synths are sold without presets.
And more instruments being able to import wav files
further biases opinions.

To answer the question almost directly,
I suggest that having Howard Scarr spend a month or four
creating new Zebra 3 sounds, will be a tough act to follow

(I might add that my favorite 10 instrument presets are still
from instruments in the 32 bit dynasty :hyper:

Honestly I know HS and HZ are big names and all but it was hard for me to find one preset I personally like. I wasn’t really impressed (However they seem to be very resource efficient). Zebra 3 might be a different story ;).
Opening up Dune 3 I was instantly creaming myself in joy. Well good that we have diversity I guess.
From a commercial synth, I might like 5 or 10 presets out of 100,
and use a few of those. Howards sounds are in many U-he plugins
offering a huge number to choose from. The film score sounds
are a subset of his collection, made to fit a narrow genre,
even down to specific scenes.
If you missed something there, ACE, Hive, Bazille,
and Repro 1-5 have a much wider appeal. I don't own Diva,
but trust the consensus opinions, and my positive demo experiences.

You're right about Dune, and I'd love it if Zebra 3
arrives April 1st, 2020 :hyper:
Cheers

Yep, I think TRK-01 is hugely under-rated around here. It's just about my favourite synth, especially the cut-down Play version we got for free. And the notch filter means you van fit it into any mix.
Most people will agree that Thorn, RePro and Aalto sound absolutely amazing, but i have a really hard time fitting them into my music.
Here we are on opposite sides. Our new album was about 75% done when I got Thorn, yet I managed to find a place for it in about half the songs. It was closer to 90% done when I got the RePros, yet they also feature on a couple of songs each. They are all amazing synths and work beautifully in our mixes.

My advice would be the opposite here, too. Whilst it is impossible to ignore the sheer quality of Diva, I found it far too tame for the kind of music we do, which points to a lack of flexibility. Yes, it has a lot of different options but they are all variations on a theme. DUNE and Hive both offer far far broader sonic palette and the RePros feel more versatile to me, too.

Yes, that's a synth I had badly underestimated, based on the uninspiring presets it ships with. But once I started to make my own sounds from scratch, or by tweaking a preset, I started to appreciate how good it is.

Track I made recently for a mix contest .. all acid-y bass is TRK-01, the rest is Spire. I was quite amazed at how good this thing sounded, and how many ways there are to tweak the sound embedded in that tiny interface.

i think i'm naturally gravitating towards using TRK-01 as my main synth, as most of what i use synths for is just a bass guitar. It's weird for me to have synths like Zebra, Massive, Serum, Hive and Thorn when i'm only using a fragment of their features. Even with TRK-01, i haven't fully explored each oscillator mode! i also appreciate that it seems like the synth was put together with the simplicity of a hardware piece in mind, but isn't another analog emulation. It's its own thing.

The bass during the heavy parts of this song are all TRK-01, it won over Hive when testing the part in the mix. During the quieter parts (verses, melodic bridge thing and break) are Serum but i think i was just being lazy. Probably could have gotten that sound from TRK-01 paired maybe with Operator.

ALL the bass on this one is TRK-01. It beat out Thorn, Serum and Massive when i checked the part with those synths as well.

Admittedly, my sound design is painfully simple, but i feel like most of the more complex bass sound design is all done with fx processing anyway so a simple synth like TRK-01 could do that as well. Okay, enough fanboi crap from me. Back on topic.

Thanks! The 'Shibboleth' EP on there (and possibly 'Nova') is the only one that sounds like the tracks i shared, i just started writing that way last year. i totally botched the mastering job on it in a rush, but, luckily, it's also free. :hihi:
