what about the push/pull shuffle/swing function in EchoBoy?
I haven't seen any other delays with this function.

Echoboy is really great imo.

From what I see of the gui seems Echoboy at under $50 is the better deal. Of course it all depends on the person and what they want and what sounds good to them. I am sure many will own both.

Are you comparing the full Echoboy with opened tweak panel?
Ok, I see you are beta testing VDelay, but Echoboy is quite deep in tweakability.

Also another Delay thrown in is FabFilter Timeless.

The only thing I don’t care for with a new delay release is how quick people are to attack Echoboy, when most of the time there is very little room for comparisons.

Echoboy is just another tool, that was done incredibly well. It doesn't cover everything which is why there is so much room for other delays to be amazing in their own way.

Considering how Sean scrapped his micro pitch plug because Eventide had released theirs, I would never imagine him trying to replace ore replicate Echoboy, but instead focus on the things he likes about delays and bring those things to a software form.

I have never read about a developer geek out on delay units as much as he has... Sean has released many plugins over the years while at the same time talking about hardware delay acquisitions and the intricacies of the signature sound of those delay units.

What I expect is something that will stand on its own, and I expect lots of character, much the same way his reverbs are full of character making them useful no matter how many other great reverbs you already own.

Sean, screw it. If the site goes down, it goes down. Give the people what they want! All jokes aside, hurry up!!

Question is whether it can do all the things Echoboy can really...

Why? You already have Echoboy which does all the things Echoboy does. It doesn't make sense for the standard for each new product to be: does it do everything out there every product before it does and more? I understand that desire, but there are other factors to take into account: workflow, sound quality, design aesthetic, etc. Echoboy is Echoboy. If you want it, buy it. If ValhallaDelay is similar but different, that should be viewed as a strength, not a weakness.

Now if ValhallaDelay does nothing better than Echoboy (i.e. sounds worse, features suck, workflow sucks, GUI blows, no clear advantage) then it won't be a successful product and there'd be no reason for anyone who already has Echoboy to purchase it, or for new customers to just not run out and buy Echoboy on sale instead. I don't think that will be the case.

Frankly, I think Echoboy is amazing on paper because of it's feature set, but these days I don't use it that much because of the sound. Most times I load it up, I think to myself, "oh, wait, I have a better sounding delay elsewhere." Space Echo? I use Audiothing's Outerspace. Sounds better. Bucket brigade? There's either Colour Copy, Bucket 500, or Dubstation. Echoplex? I have Modnetic and the T-Racks ones. Diffuse delay? Mod Machines Diffuse. Pitch delay? Valhalla Freq Echo. Messed up craziness? Sandman Pro. Don't have a good modulated delay, so hopping (and looking like) Valhalla will fill that need).

Plus the Echoboy GUI is very hard to read and Echoboy's workflow kind of sucks with the tweaks pages and hidden tap settings. I actually use Echoboy Jr. more for those reasons. But there are some cool things you can do with Echoboy in terms of groove and playing with taps. That doesn't mean every delay I buy has to do all that and more though. This isn't an arms race.

Maybe they'll finally have a sale now that they have more plug-ins. Spending $50 on one delay plugin is too much for me when there are a lot of good bundles out there

Because we all know that things priced expensive that go on sale are better than things priced at that sale price that don't go on further sale. :dog:

Echo Boy is a fine old tool. I tried it. Am waiting for Valhalla. Maybe I'll get Echoboy when it's on sale again at BF.
