I've had a look at the Superior Drummer 3, and a couple of other drum kits, and while I do think SD3 is likely to be a winner when it comes to ease of use, I'm still wondering if there is a more comprehensive collection of modern electronic/esoteric drum kits for putting together tracks.

I've heard of NI Maschine, and that has some nice sounds, but still leaves me thinking there are more out there.

I know Uh-He is coming out with some sort of drum synthesis instrument, but haven't heard much about it since a few years ago.

SD3 will of course sound more like a real drum kit (if that is what you want), but samples are an easy way to go without investing a ton of cash and fit in with electronic music better than real drum kit sounds anyhow (IMO).

Superior Dummer also has electronic kits.

I think you should aim towards sample packs instead of vst plugins. There is an endless amount of drum kits at reddit for free, and also lots of great drum kits for 5$-10$ that you can find in google. Most of it are just roland 808 samples with tweaks, and thats what you are searching for.
